Depends on what you want. If you are looking for money, probably Okta is a good choice. Salesforce share already spiked up and still had potential, but not like a small and rising company like okta. Salesforce doesn’t give yearly RSU refreshes. Also SRE team in Salesforce is very big. Too many people in line for promotions. I may be wrong here, nothing stops you if you are an excellent performer.

Coming to advantages of Salesforce. Work life balance is Salesforce is excellent. But not sure how it would be in your case as you are an SRE, who will be on toes everyday.

Salesforce has very good reputation in market. Your next jump would be more easy, at least you get call for any company you want. I am a DevOps engineer very similar to your SRE, I am looking for move recently and I got a call from all the top and best companies here. Of course cracking them totally depends on ones skills and potential, but it’s easy to get call and schedule interviews.

It’s easy to change roles if you want in Salesforce as it’s a big company. If you want to change your career from SRE to software engineer or DevOps engineer, it’s very easy. We have something called OOM for every 4 months and you can change to any team if you want. Of course you have to go through a minimal to average interview process.

Learning wise, I don’t think you could learn much in Salesforce after an year or so. As it’s too big infra and they are not using any latest technologies and tools in Infra area like kubernetes/Docker yet in production. Of course many teams are using it internally, but not in production that SRE could deal and learn. I may be totally wrong here. You must have got to know during your interviews what technologies they are using and learning scope.

If moving to different location is on your mind, Salesforce is a good option. Let’s say if you have plans of moving to Texas or Atlanta few years later. Salesforce is very good option, it’s not that difficult as most of the teams are spread across the USA. Especially SRE is spread across different zones, so it’s definitely possible. You can get better salary than what you get in those locations after you move even after 10% cut based on cost of living. There are many cases with no changes in pay after relocation. It depends on your pay grade. Based on TC you mentioned, may not be cut for you.

I hope this helps in choosing the best. All be best

Experience at both. Both are great. What do you hope to accomplish? . If you want to be a part of something smaller where you can make an impact (lots of growth potential) and see the value of your contribution pretty quickly -- go for Okta.
