For the forth time in a row, I am experiencing the same issue when I start working in a new company. The manager shows full support, while the other employees are trying to make me hate the job. When I tell my manager about this, his answer is to ignore them, and do what I want to do, but in reality they have more power by him. What frustrating me is they stop on my way of doing the job in the right way, and they do not do their tasks in a good manner. Is it a good place to work for?
This is very common in case the manager is not strong enough. Unless ur at highest position in the team ( architect ) it will be almost impossible to change the culture. I would advice in finding another team where you know someone and are sure won’t see the same issue. However if this keeps happening with you all the time maybe the problem might be you . You should give some more examples of what is the right way for you which others disagree
Seems rather consistent. Is it possible that the problem is actually you? Maybe your coworkers are just trying to get you to do some work, and you are just a slacker or not very competent? 🍆
Actually, on the contrary, I am top performer and most skilled person.
Says who?
Imagine how much your manager is looking forward to having these talks with you: “the team aren’t doing good things, they are all bad people and I am the only good one here”. I bet the manager is just soo excited about the next time you stop by. How about: see it as a advantage. Stop complaining and start being the best version of you. Get their mood up, make your managers life a little easier and go the extra mile.
He wants me to be the spy on them!
Don’t spy. Snitches get stitches.
Getting caught up in it will eventually limit your career, I had to get past this. My leaders didn’t want to promote me when I’m stuck bickering and whining but a person who picks their battles, fixes problems. One of the best signs you’re ready for more leadership roles is when you can manage peoples personalities NOT in your control. Identify specific situations you’re stuck on, figure out what’s going on, then roll out a plan to work on it. Most personality issues stem from misunderstandings of others perspectives and a good talk and reset can do wonders. We use Crucial Conversations a lot that can help get you started.
Yep last time I promoted someone was because they fixed a bunch of problems. Last time I didn’t promote someone and suggested they might be happier somewhere else it w because they complained nonstop.
Yes, I agree with you, I understand myself more than others, many time I speak about something and they feel offended while I meant something else.
Everyone is accountable. - The manager needs to be consistent and clear about his direction to you and the team. Ask your manager to be clear to all of you. - The team should not gang on you. You also need to understand their pain points. Why they avoid your process? - They are entitled to do their task on the methodology they choose. The word “my way” is very micro thinking. And, you may come across the anti-collaboration person.
I am a sales guy, there are some issues with supplying the cash van, we failed making sales strategy, ..etc. I have some experience in sales and I have a good plan, and it used by many companies, my way is the company way for success!
Thank you for the context. Are you a lead? In any case, your manager has to have your back for others to follow you.
Find a different team or a different company. What is it that your teammates say or do that you don’t like?
They don't take attention to their work as much as mine! They try to look they understand and do their job perfectly but in reality the opposite. They try to make me do their work by delegating.
Probably "my way is the right way" is the problem?
The common factor across these four different corporations and groups of people is clearly yourself. Maybe there aren't actually dozens of people out to get you, and make you hate your job. When you are the new guy on a team, maybe you should learn to just take the advice of the more experienced people, rather than just insisting that your way is always the right way like a fussy child.
