What’s the worst tech job you’ve had and what/why was it so bad? Mine was for a little start up, there were less than 10 employees and basically the idea was to copy BofA’s Erica and sell it to small banks. Except that like it was all supposed to be built by one guy and we were trying to make functionality (like a chat bot) that big companies had already made, and had made much better. Boss was abusive and nickel and dimed constantly, wanting everyone to be in office 9-10 hours a day but then trying to dock yr pay if took a few hours to go to an appointment for example. Also would change deals with clients at the last minute, spiking sales you had already put together by sending you back to suddenly ask for more. Also had bad boundaries and would make gross sex jokes.
Sounds like a white dude from the 70's or 80's
Robert California?
Wth did they want a data scientist for
A typist. Graduated (ranked first out of 50) with CS degree of the toppest university in my country and the only job they offered me was a typist. I can't explain in words how happy I feel to leave that damn country and come to the U.S.
Wow what country is that?
I was a product line manager at a startup. The CEO wanted me to be down with accounting fraud. (I don’t have an accounting degree, nor was I in an accounting role, the accounting fraud was *that* obvious.) That company has since been sued by the state of New Mexico and gone bankrupt in sketchy circumstances. Reading the GlassDoor reviews that consistently called him a psychopath in the years since I left was cathartic.
Jesus Christ. Actually my boss at the bad one wanted me to help him commit tax fraud by telling the city of Berkeley that his business was in Emeryville. The reason was so he could avoid about $800 dollars in taxes he owed.
A SWE gig in a crappy team in a Tier 1 tech giant. Mediocre teammates, terrible manager, shitty project. I'm convinced that team has set my career back by one year at least.
On the contrary, having a boss very laid back and hard to make any actions is also a disaster ...
