I am 4th year student with a job offer at TI for next year. I've been wondering if it's smarter to get into software instead? Do you guys regret getting into the field/would you deter new grads from pursuing jobs in hardware?
U can change ur wife when ur interest changes!!
haha I was thinking of the do what you love comment not the changing interests
I would choose software if I have second chance
How old are you?
If compensation is important then go for software..especially in Bay Area you make almost 2x compared to hardware
What if I want to live in Arizona?
Probably the hw vs sw salary difference is not so much in Arizona..However the job opportunities are also fewer in hardware, so keep that in my mind
Nope. I would have chosen journalism if I could do a do-over.
What about wasting away your prime years 25-33 in medical school in high stress, less social life environment and earning peanuts and then entering the workforce with $300-$400k med school debt? Of course you would pay everything off with higher salaries but you need to pick your poison.
Ahh i see.
I like hardware. I don't like software. I wouldn't pick software for this reason. If you're in a similar boat, I wouldn't change course. Extra money can't make up for dreading doing to work every day
Trust me, if your are not really crazy passionate about HW don’t go. Money does matters a lot. Plus SW has higher demand and more opportunities. You can always change jobs until you find a job with good wlb. I would love to switch to SW for money.
Are you in a HW role actively trying to switch to software?
Too old now to switch. As you might have read that you got to wait for a very long time to get good money in HW. In SW, you can get pretty decent pay right off college.
Dont go to hardware if you care about 💰
Do what you love. You can always change paths when your interests change.
I love my wife...
Great.😀
