They pay the most, so why dont you work at one?
I went on a few dates with a guy who works at a hedge fund. They work a lot, and on market times. Was in the office 6:30am to 4:30pm. Lol I’m in the office 10am to 4:30pm most days.
Because I am a lazy underperformer that wouldn't last 7 minutes at one.
I flourish as king of the dipshits.
Bernie told me not to
😂 If you think he is telling you where not to work now. Wait until he tells you were to work at your assigned job.
Not all hedge funds pay like Citadel and not everyone can get into the ones that do...
Citadel is not elite nor are most of their engineers working on crazy stuff. A lot of automating excel workflows etc, building frontends, etc..
Where did I say elite? "Front office" roles at Citadel pay great. The OP is obviously referring to roles that pay well in firms that pay well. It is also objectively harder to get into than a number of big tech companies. Whether that constitutes elite to you is irrelevant.
Most of my friends working at hedge funds are making less than me
Average fund sure but the top ones give bonuses hundreds of percents of base salary
Do the hundred percent+ bonuses go to the devs or the quants and fund managers though.
Gotta get that Google status first
And then what?
how hard was your interview?
Why’d I do that if I can get over half a mil working 40 hours instead...
Hedge funds are generally worth good money when market is good or the company performs well, which isn’t always the case. In those times you are likely to end up with 0 bonus and they fire like crazy without notice
Except hedge funds are designed to perform well in otherwise bear markets
Has nothing to do with "the market" being good or bad though, in fact a good market is bad for hedge funds that aim to be risk neutral since they'll most likely have worse returns than the market. But conceptually yes, there is luck to it. Your team and firm need to do well, and markets are harder to make consistent money in.
If they give HUGE signing bonuses that doesn’t have to be repaid if you get fired, that’s a good place to work
