The culture of fear, hiring and firing easily, stressful environment, work pressure.. how true is all of this?
I know 3 people that were fired, out of maybe 7-8 that I know that have worked there
Recently I did lot of research into this. I did a poll few months back about employees if they live in fear everyday, almost 50% said yes. This doesn’t necessarily mean they all will get fired, but that is definitely something to consider. Also note that their hiring bar is pretty high, so even best of the industry hires do get fired, mostly due to behavioral reasons/not team player. Most netflix employees on Blind seems happy and overly positive, completely denying anything negative which you tell them. So, I don’t know if it’s kool aid Or they really fit into the culture. But there are only handful of Netflix employees on Blind who repeatedly post and defend.
Not sure of the hiring bar.. I found the interviews much easier than Google etc and for a company that claims to attract the best minds I was definitely expecting tougher technical questions.
I completely agree with the OP on the hiring bar. Over the years, I have seen a few groups lower their hiring bar aggressively with a few hiring managers openly agreeing to this fact. Truth is many of the recent hiring managers that we have hired leave a lot to be desired when it comes to their ability to attract top tier talent. As the adage goes, A players hire A players, B players hire C players.
OP, I doubt if hiring is easy but firing might be from what I’ve heard and read on blind.
Worked in Netflix for 2+ years as a Senior mobile engineer and it was my best experience in life as an engineer (I worked overall in 10 companies). But I worked good and delivered what promised, so felt no fear. Usually smart people who work good, are well respected, their salaries grow like crazy and there is nothing that they don't like there. But for lazy or disorganized people it's definitely an atmosphere of fear there.
What made you leave for the sinking ship called snapchat

Lmao me1st
I absolutely love my job here and have never had any fear of firing. I have a great manager who gives me great opportunities and helpful feedback. Back when I was joining I was equally worried. The reviews on Glassdoor are blown out of proportion.
You do realize that Blind is just that? Blind. So I would take polls with a caution. As Snap mentioned Netflix is best company I ever worked. And yes Glassdoor is blown out of proportion.
They fire fast, wouldn’t recommend someone on a visa
