Engineer here at SCV. I bought the phone less than 3 weeks ago, and no AppleCare. I dropped it today and one of the corners in the back glass (camera corner) cracked. Functionality is intact. I noticed the touch screen sensitivity was a bit off and was thinking about getting it to an Apple store, but now i don’t think the Apple store crew will take my word for it with the crack on the back glass. Any ideas on how to get it repaired at cost or how to proof that touch screen sensitivity was off and get a replacement? Thanks in advance!
What credit card did you use? Most credit cards have free accidental damage protection up to 120 days.
Good point! It’s a blue cash preferred from AMEX. I will check their policy. Thanks!!
What? Apple employees don't have any discounts on repairs (slight discount on AppleCare). No one will repair a $1000 phone under his desk for free
Honest question here. I’m not trying to get a deal under the table. Just want to know what are my options before dropping $600 for a back glass repair... if you don’t mind.
The number of times I’ve been to Home Depot (for my AOU)... Many folks may have been using their AOU phones as personal phones, which may have partially caused the confusion.
Credit cards cover accidental damage. Reach out to them
Yep, I’m looking that one up right now, as another commenter posted.
Uber credit card is good !
For repairs...?
You get an insurance which covers repairs for upto $600 free.
I think Apple employees get 10% discount for repairs if you show your badge in store.
Don't want to be a prick but when people buy $1k+ phones why not put a case that is 3% of the cost on it?
😂”apple, free”
I work at an Apple retail store and I am 100% sure no employee gets free repair. Our store leader paid the same repair cost as any regular customer
[UPDATE] Folks, it looks like AMEX, which I used to par for the phone, will cover for the cost of repairing to up until $1,000.
I'm afraid the only solution will be to pay up for the cracked glass, which could be very costly. Sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear but accidents happen.
Yep. That’s cool. Just wanted to know the options, if any. As far as I know, the back glass is glued to the whole thing. So, the repair cost will be the worst case scenario which is almost $600.
