The director role pays less than the Netflix IC but is quite senior. I’m looking to balance worklift balance/stress with long term career growth...
Fb not paying you enuf? What level ru
Depends on what you really like doing - and not just now but where you feel you’ll want to be. Regardless of FANG, tech, etc the roles of an IC and a manager are quite different. If you love executing on a problem and being in the weeds - being the person that gets called in to fix things - the individual that can get things done, then go for the IC role. And it doesn’t have to be forever, anyway. If you like nurturing people, developing their skills - being the person that has to make the hard decisions and have those hard conversations, go for the management role. While you can go back to an IC role if it doesn’t work out, the longer you are a manager, the harder it will be as you will no longer be exercising those hard skills the IC’s have.

Depends what you want. VPs at non tech companies make only about 400K-500K which is about mid level management. If you’re only after money - faang is best. If you want to run a business - then corporate is better and you’ll be up leveled because they’ll try to match your comp. I’ve received some offers for director or senior director at non tech companies that offer a big jump in base but very little other comp. still considering.
