So I've been working as a software dev in Seattle for this start up for over a year now, but we started with very little funding ($100k) for a team of 10+ people, but the thing is that the company if willing could have multiplied the funding 5 times. as you could expect I don't make that much (I started out as a Junior unpaid intern), actually I was able to survive with $8,000 dollars last year here (and fairly comfortable too). but the longer I am with this start up the more and more I see it falling apart from the inside, promises of rewards sound like a broken cheap mixtape and I've reached a burn out state, I no longer am enthusiastic about this start up as when I joined it. And honestly I don't see it succeeding with the way things are running right now.
sure doesn't sound like things are pointed in the right direction
jump ship.
maybe have a lifeboat and check if it's cold first.
yea, the founder has been saying the same thing for the last year "First, we have to prove why exist" and we never leave that loop, like we never value ourselves.
I agree with the comments regarding the fundraising situation. "Preserving equity" is great...if you're one of the people with a significant equity stake. I'm guessing that's not the case for you
How did you possibly survive on $8k?!
I found a decent place to live for 500 a month, and I received some support from family members(3k). But didnt really enjoy myself, eat conservative and live a frugal life.
where the fuck did you find a place for $500 a month?
A startup with no money that's turning away funding when it's offered... is crazy. You're not being paid, and you say it's falling apart. Leave!
I agree, but it's hard finding other opportunities
Really? How so? You're a software engineer in a city where that's in big demand. You could try improving your Linkedin profile, create one on angellist, talk to recruiters, use Google job search...
Do what anyone else does in this situation: leak info to techcrunch and force a fire sale.
Life of a software engineer is short. You'll burn out. Put all that effort and gusto into something that will allow you to retire comfortably by the time you start hating everyone. I'm serious.
the founder sounds like a used car salesman. You've been taken for a ride. You need to worry about your own survival not the startup's.
You've built your skills. Get out and earn more than just lunch money.
