Eric Weinstein, when speaking to sam harris on his podcast says ""most of software is gloried for/while loops; you invoke a library, code up a class; its basically plumbing." https://youtu.be/6FQy9BLVzxQ?t=3559 What do you guys think?
Most (if not all) breathing is just the same thing, inhale and exhale.
The vast amount of developers are doing bog standard Micky mouse stuff, that’s true. Requires not much intelligence and just copy pasting and invoking libs. There is a small portion doing interesting and ground breaking stuff, usually due to scale, research etc.
One can agree to both scenarios. Yes, we are glorified keyboard tappers (thanks mainly to Hollywood stereotypes), but that in no way means your average Joe would be able to do most of what we do.
Yeah for those who thinks that anyone can code try joining a shit-tier company and seeing what the bottom of the spectrum looks like. At my last job we weren't allowed to branch the git repo because that was too confusing for some people on the team.
Which company was that?
Most coding is looking things up on stackoverflow and trying the top solution provided out there.
Ah yes Import hack_government success = false while (not success) { success = hack_government() }
Jesus man take this down, it's not responsible to post something like this publicly
And who writes that Library - God?
Very few smart ones write those
It’s an over simplification, and I don’t trust anything from the mouth of Eric Weinstein, he strikes me as a smarmy, intellectually lazy pedagogue. And Sam Harris is an atheist who thinks that his biggest credential is the fact that he’s a “rational atheist” with a mile long stick up his rear. I can’t stand either of them.
Most of Shakespeares literature is just glorified arrangements of Aa-Zz.
Most programming is very basic to you and I. Complete alien technology to anyone without any exposure. The fun part is when they get enough of a taste to think it’s ALL easy, like this tweet “So I'm probably going to alienate some tech folks by saying this, but I'd like to counter a prevalent narrative. If coding were such an elite and difficult skill, there wouldn't be a market for code schools/bootcamps that can teach it. You don't see bootcamps for doctors.” https://twitter.com/soniagupta504/status/1199022205927133184

Most roads are also just the same thing, concrete and asphalt
