im currently a NOC analyst im waiting on the new CCNA/CCNP certifications in february to start working on. In the mean time id like to work on a cert that will help me boost my chances of getting into FAANG once i pickup the new ccna/ccnp certs. if anyone has any advice please share!
Networking is boring. I am a CCIE and I have earned the right to say that. Go learn to code and join the league of the big boys and girls in FAANG.
You do realize that's an opinion, right? Some don't find networking boring at all. I certainly understand that salaries for SWE jobs are a clear step up from networking, but network design/build is fun for many and the tech IS still evolving, in many ways.
That's basically a StackOverflow-like response. Q: How do I do XYZ in JavaScript? A: JavaScript is shit, use Python!
Why are you waiting? Tests you take now will have an exam 3.0 counterpart for which you will receive credit. I don't work for a FAANG company, so I have no idea how you'd go about doing that. NetEng jobs in FAANG seem kinda rare...
How's Gartner?
That is a really interesting question. There are interesting things to say about the company, the Irving office (which is HQ for IT people), the IT org, and my team specifically. I won't discuss the last of these here because I'd be easy to identify. Overall, I quite like it. The company has grown faster than any I've encountered (via M&A activity, largely) and that has come with some very real growing pains. The worst of them is the political climate within IT. I have quite a negative opinion of the CIO, but he should be reaching the end of his shelf life, I would think, since he's been here around 5 years.
What certs so you currently have? Can't really recommend anything to you until I know what you have.
The real question to ask is WHICH CERTS DOES FAANG CARE ABOUT AT ALL. My guess is literally none. Maybe a developer cert in a cloud computing platform is useful to show you have an understanding on how to develop and deploy apps on it. But what does that have to do with any particular SWE role? It seems like all that matters is your knowledge on the actual role by studying up and leetcoding.
Jesus christ, not everyone is an SWE. Do you understand that someone builds, deploys, and maintains the networks and infrastructure you use to run your shit? We all know the SWE side makes more money, but it's distinctly different from infra and, uh...based on your answer, you don't know a goddamned thing about infra/network.
Cool so what are the said certs that FAANG cares about? Please tell me
Skip the certs and have learn to automate some tasks in your networking job, then tell the story on those
None.. That is just stupid if you only care about cert
