hi guys! i have sold my used car and he gave me back my two plates, bill of sales (i lost this but i have photo copy) certified check(cleared one week ago) have all conversation via text message that i sold my car did i do something wrong? my concerns: 1: this cleared certified check can be bounced back?(he issued his TD bank check with me at TDbank) 2: if he makes car accident and can this involve me in the accident? sorry for this stupid questions...
In CA, you don't get to keep the plates unless they are custom plates
Im just worried about this dealer makes car accident without registering his name(but he does not have my plates and i have bill of sales...)
Go to DMV, surrender plates, cancel the registration and insurance. You can try it online also.
Oh can i surrender plates via online? I mean should i do this even though i have my own plates? They dont have my plate
Registration is more important 'cause that has the car's vin in your name in their system. Looks like ny doesn't allow you online https://dmv.ny.gov/registration/surrender-vehicle-plates-dmv
Report the sale to the DMV and keep records. I was just sent to collections for parking tickets for a vehicle I sold 8 years ago. The person I sold too never registered it so the tickets were under my name and probably had noticed being sent to my previous address but I never knew that.
My car is registered under Rhode Island! Should i visit RI dmv? Also even though i have my own plate, can it be issued? Thanks a lot for your response men
Some guy might use your vehicle as a getaway π in Rhode Island.
Often times state DMVs allow you to say you give up interest in a vehicle or something like that. This allows you to record that you don't own it, in the event the buyer fails to register it.
Every State has different rules. Go to your DMV site and find the appropriate link.
Thanks....
