I am yet to get the offer from MSFT INDIA. Queries : 1 - How do I evaluate the company itself?#tech 2 - What is the job security for such roles? 3 - What are the questions I should the co founders, who sees business side of things? The role which has been communicated to me will involve C++, rust, low latency systems. During the intro call with recruiter I was told the company has 4M of funding. The Investors are those who funded slack, airbnb. I don't know 70LPA will consist of ESOP or just the cash. There will be a discussion. I am from a college where no companies used to visit, and people took 1.5 years or 2 years after graduation, to get a job of 3LPA. Some took 3 years to get on their feet. None of my friends have startups and I don't know much about fundings/rounds/series. I am Employed at a Hardware company YOE : 8 YEARS 4 Months MY current pay is 36( base ) + stocks of 7L per year + 15% variable + 3L joining bonus
What's your current company? Yoe, current comp? And mostly depends on the start-up as well, unless you name it, it'll be difficult for anyone to give you any idea. People will just say, if you've risk appetite go for startup, else MSFT. But that's never the complete answer
I can't disclose the startup name, they have single digit employee count. How do I evaluate a startup? Currently I am at a hardware company. Not intel. MY current pay is 36( base ) + stocks of 7L per year + 15% variable + 3L joining bonus
Do it
Evaluating a company can be done based on the customers they’re servicing, b2b or b2c, evaluating the product strength in market and scope of your position (you think if it’s long term or short term engagement)
> they are competing with app dynamics That's all I can gather form the calls and websites
Go for it bro. Not many get the chances. You're the chosen one. Fuck and forget faang for a while.
I don't think the interview was hard. They didn't ask coding questions or DSA. They asked C++ and understood my work. I am afraid because - I don't know a thing about start-up - The interview wasn't hard - People from my college had terrible experience at small companies, many small companies took money from them and made them work.
I would suggest to try and gather some info and reviews around that startup with your USA friends
With your YOE, MSFT can easily match it or go above it. Why are you not considering that? It will provide good WLB
MSFT Is paying, as communicated 36 L base 3 +2 Joining Bonus 60 to 90 K stocks, over 4 years Variable of 15-30 % Level 63
that's real good noh? just a little low than startup but a much bigger name
Make sure you get hold of some good stocks. Given you are the first 10 employees. Good learning opportunity but expect poor wlb given the timezone differences and being a startup. You have nothing to loose this will be an experience without the risk of visa issues and being in the comfort of your home and understanding the global startup market. You can quit anytime, find other things if it doesn't work for you. If you are looking for wlb and security opt for Microsoft. It will be a difficult choice for you coming from a noname college declining a brand name on your cv. One thing I can say is if you have cracked Microsoft once then you have the skill to do it again. :)
How do I validate the stocks? All my colleague buddies have had terrible experience at small companies, even for such roles
Foremost try to evaluate if they are looking for a programming monkey offshoring development to India. Ask why they are hiring you in India when the market is not India. Why don't they hire in the US? Where they see you in 2-5 years? Also understand what's the business vision. What plans they have for the next 12 months and the following 2-3 years. Regarding stocks I will let someone else who has been in this situation guide you ie: accepted a startup offer. But you should have a tiny fractional percentage of stocks as the early employee I believe.
Take it. And then switch to FAANG after 1 year for even higher TC
I have plans for marrying and spending time with family. The 2020 was a bad year for me
How you applied for the remote job ??
They approached me. I didn't even remember applying there
If you work remotely you can show that you're working as freelancer in your income tax return and legally pay very less taxes.
Wow, which?
I can't really tell the startup name.
