I'm considering some Product Management offers post-MBA graduation and would like your advice. Amazon - Sr. Product Manager - Technical (L6), Seattle (team unknown) Base: 144k Signon: 1st year = 71,500 & 2nd year = 57,000 RSU: 180k (5/15/40/40) schedule over 4 years Adobe - PM (P30), San Jose/SF (platform product team) Base: 150k (bonus target 15%) Signon: 30k RSU: 187,500 (25/25/25/25) over 4 years Pro Amazon: Senior Title, FAANG Status, WA tax benefit Pro Adobe: Company culture, known team, tuition reimbursement (10k), Employee stock purchase program, better benefits, better location Current TC - 0 (student) #amazon #adobe #product #productmanagement #mbacompensation #mba #faang #pm #product
Congratulations! If I were you I’d choose based on the location. Both companies are great and the pay is kinda comparable. Would’ve loved to be in your situation when I was in b-school lol. Amazon hires many PMs from b-school so I imagine if to be more fun to be in Seattle with a large cohort of new friends.
underrated insight. on the other hand, you're likely to have more friends in the bay area from earlier in life.
Amazon then pivot to Adobe.
Mba student here too in similar situation. I went with Amazon as I think Amazon has better learning opportunity for first pm job. You get more autonomy and will be pushed to learn quicker. Pay for Amazon is actually higher since your Amazon offer is in Seattle. The Bay Area equivalent is: ~260k for first year (165k base, 85k first year sign on, 210k rsu)
1. Titles down mean much between these two. 2. While there is no income tax here, WA has a state sales tax. Including that, Adobe CA offer seems lower vs Amazon. 3. WLB is an important parameter and Adobe scores there. 4. Look at possible stock appreciation for both these in the next 4 year period, that’s where your money is.
Was in a similar situation and picked Amazon. Zero regrets.
Problem with Amazon is that you don't know what team you'll match to.
Congratulations! I’d choose Amazon. FAANG is like an early long term investment. Once you have it on your resume it’ll open more new doors. What’s your pre MBA experience?
PM in financial services
Congrats! I joined Amazon post-MBA. You can count on learning a lot at Amazon due to the pace, scope, and level of autonomy (0 handholding here) that is expected w/in 3 months of joining. Depending on your pre-MBA experience, you may also be able to switch teams to a different domain if you don't like your landing spot, though this isn't guaranteed. As another post mentioned, the title doesn't matter. L6/Sr. is a very broad bucket and external companies and recruiters know this about Amazon. L6 a terminal position, meaning you can technically spend an entire Amazon career at the L6 level as there's no guarantee of promo to L7.
Wow Amazon really screwed me compared to this. Good for you though! My post-MBA offer for L6 Sr TPM On 9/17/2021 I was extended an offer that had the below terms: Location: Seattle Base: $132,600.00 Sign-on: $43,000.00 (1st year only) RSU: $103,000 (5/15/40/40) schedule over 4 years Current TC $130,000 (10y exp)
Offers are standard. TPM are paid less than PMT.
Adobe, considering better benefits and better work culture compared to Amazon.
