Optimising FB London bootcamp experience as E4 SWE Infra

Here is some context for why I am asking these questions NOW instead of a few months later when I actually join - https://www.teamblind.com/post/AAjxmfB5?cid=15691820 Context : Gotta choose between a infra/platform team doing Kubernetes-y stuff at Apple Media Products London that seems good and really want me, vs FB bootcamp gauntlet I have 5y exp as a generic backend engineer What I want to optimise for in FB(how Apple team rates on these axes) : Worried about PIP/getting rated MM(idk what it's like for Apple in general but I was hired as IC3 at 5yoe, so slightly underleveled maybe?) Want to work in Oculus/FB Reality Labs or in ML/CV/AI(0) Being able to make OSS contributions is a minor plus(0) Good WLB(40h/week of focussed work)—for this, less collaboration with X-timezone teams(HM said WLB is a focus and is good for new joinees) More infra than product side (infra/platform team) High impact, easier career growth (3y old team, HM's manager says roadmap looks great) High reliance on 'deep tech knowledge' vs knowing about FB internal systems/architectures (Apple team is balanced on this aspect) Recent bootcampers, how have you gone about your bootcamp optimising for the things you care about? Longterm FB employees, how has this optimisation turned out? Also, I'm not sure I understand the wlb/impact tradeoff at the team level. As I understand it, for a person X and team Y, there's a certain amount of effort(let's say quantified as weekly hours) that they need to put in, to achieve each performance rating. Some people might be more generally talented, so their weekly hours might be less than other people While if you have a tech stack match then X1 can have lower hours in Y1 than Y2, whereas X2 might have lower hours in Y2. By this metric WLB = number of weekly hours you need to attain MA. So do high impact/low wlb teams have a small difference between MA and EE hours, and the difference is greater in high wlb low impact teams(i.e. easy to get MA but even a lot of additional effort won't get you EE/GE)? #fb #apple #london #bootcamp #oculus #realitylabs
