Interviewed for a senior software engineer position at Walmart. 3 rounds total. First round was reasonable, got asked two LC medium questions. Second round got a medium and a medium/hard topo sort question. Third round got a medium and hard dynamic programming question. This was all fine and dandy and expected if I was interviewing for a top tier tech company, but at the end I was offered the position for 135k. I don’t mind because I was only using the interview for practice, but I was blown away. If you are going to ask questions like this in an interview please please pay accordingly. The nerve! TC: 250k
I interviewed for a software manager spot at Walmart (for practice) Set everything up with the recruiter and was good to go. I Got to the interview and the guy started with ‘As you know this is an IC position’ I said that I had applied to a SDM position, he tried to convince me that the IC position was just as good, then gave up when I told him my salary expectations. Broken process.

Senior Software Engineer average TC is $230,000. Base alone is significantly over $135. Perhaps you interviewed for a Senior but then they offered you a SWE III or lower?
In which location is the tc 230k for sse? Is it for Bay Area or Bentonville/Dallas?
You interviewed for senior (X4) but what did they actually offer you? You mentioned the base. SWE III (X3) fits that number properly. Walmart downlevels a lot of candidates on hire. It's short-sighted. Never accept a lower position than what you interviewed for.

No, what's idiotic is thinking, knowing how to solving predetermined frequently asked leetcode problems will help in the actual job and should determine the pay scale. But yes, 135 is too low and it's not even the lower end of the senior level band. So something is really off. TC for X3 level itself is around 200 easily. X4 should be 270 ish. Must have been a really shit team or dumb recruiter because even if OP shit the bed and was given X3, it would still be higher. Which location was this for? Definitely not Sunnyvale
