Benchling laid off 9% of the staff. The scary part lots of layoffs in go to market team. Which mean we are growing much much slower and will not come close to IPO anytime soon. Lack of Product innovation and sales execution go was the tipping point. None of the leadership hiring in the last year have made benchling better, it's gotten progressively worse. Do not come work for this company and those who stay..move on as quickly as possible or pray someone acquires us. #severance #layoff
I mean who actually need Benchling during economic downturn?
Damn this used to be a top company featured in breakout startups list some years ago…
I got my fastest rejection from Benchling after screening. I’m still embarrassed from it
I recently interviewed there for engineering. People were very genuine, really smart and lots of interesting problems to solve. I assume experiences are very different across orgs. Unfortunately at most companies right now the first targets for layoffs are recruiters and GTM, I think that’s a sign of being proactive during general economic downturns rather than any indicator of company performance. Anyhow curious if there’s anyone from Benchling that knows what it’s like on the engineering and/or science side.
Engineering is experiencing many of the same pains unfortunately. There are just less folks around to call it out, but people in engineering have also been leaving in droves for similar reasons.
Oh no. I just had a hr screening early this week and currently wait for the hiring manager round with them….so sorry to hear this bad news.
Throwing this out there - we're hiring at Watershed in Cambridge, MA for SWEs (UI), a UX designer, and an AE. If you or someone you know from Benchling was let go, are in Boston, and work in one of those roles, DM me.
DM me if you're looking for a similar position at a startup company in the same space. Just raised VC financing few months ago. More stable than corporate atm
What's the revenue like at this company? Seems like everyone jumping ship from what was once a great company
Were you a part of the layoffs? What org were you in?
Nope I'm still here jumping ship the first chance I get. I'm in the go to market Org with unrealistic quotas with clueless leaders.
