I have a meta verbal offer for IC4 for Seattle: $180k base, $400k stocks, $70k sign on. Also have a verbal offer from Amazon L5 $288k total comp and they are willing to level up to match Meta comp. What do you think about these numbers? Is Meta offer on max for Seattle pay range for SWE II? TC: $200k Y: 4 #meta #amazon #offer
Well, outside of the bands discussions… some orgs actually get paid better than others. Your past companies also plays a role…. I have a senior on my team that got a remote exception because of his past experience and education but a PE couldn’t get same
Who would choose Amazon when Meta is 2x better.
Stay away from Amazon .. many pip and horror stories.. I myself got into aws and handsome salary and was piped
Morale is pretty low at Amazon right now due to RTO and layoffs. I’m sure Meta isn’t much better. One thing to keep in mind is that Meta has a much more generous compensation philosophy than Amazon. Your comp will grow at Meta. At Amazon, you are given a rating every year in your performance review which determines your “target compensation.” Then you are granted RSUs to get you to your target compensation. Often if the stock does well, you are already above the target, so you get nothing. At meta you similarly get a performance rating which determines a “multiplier” for your bonus and refreshers. Every year you get some RSU refresher which, unlike Amazon, doesn’t consider the growth of your previous grants. So at meta when the stock does well you end up with stacking refreshers than dramatically increase your compensation. At Amazon your upside is *much* more limited. That being said, meta has a reputation for being extremely stressful, even more so than amazon, due to the data-driven performance review system. You need to show quantifiable impact every 6 months to justify your rating. Other things to keep in mind - Meta is still run by its founder who owns a controlling stake in the company and isn’t afraid to make big bets. Amazon is run by bean counters now. Hope that helps you make your decision. You can’t really go wrong with either company and it’s easy to jump ship between them.
Thanks a lot @LaurenSan. I accepted the Meta offer.
Good choice.
Even if Amazon matches, Meta will have better compensation structure. Meta on average is going to be more stressful than Amazon. But if you're focused on compensation, go to Meta.
You said “verbal offer”, which implies you haven’t made it through team matching yet. Seattle is really hard to match at right now. Best of luck, but you may find yourself taking Amazon due to team matching delays.
Hi @lLFA05, verbal offer on Meta was after team match. You first need to accept/negotiate on the verbal offer before they move on to giving offer letter. I also heard team match is very hard these days, I fortunately got lucky.
Amzn meta stock has peaked. Amzn will Have massive profits for next few years
