The rent would be about 2200 per month. I am also a foodie who loves to eat out (or order delicious food through uber eats). Is this lifestyle doable on that salary? I keep hearing on Blind that 125k in Seattle is PEANUTS, or also people showing off their 200K base salary, so I would like a reality check of what I can do and what I cannot do single, no kids, would be living by myself. #seattle
do the math yourself. you should know your monthly expenses
Why $2200 for rent? I make twice that and I pay $1500. I spend $2000 on everything else. You can make it with $100K and also save money. $125K is a lot of money!!!!
I am not from the US, will be moving to Seattle from OUT of the country so sometimes it is hard to guess what is too much for rent or what is too little. But thanks for your comment, the average commenter on Blind says that 125k is 🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜 so your comment gives me hope
Don’t listen to them, they have got nothing going on for them so they lie and say they have money, which doesn’t make them any more appealing anyway. With $125K you will end-up at $75K after tax -> $6250 a month. If you spend $4250 a month, which is a lot, you will save $24K a year. It’s a pretty awesome salary, congratulations on the new job and the move.
I agree. That rent is high, I make $90k and enjoy eating out without feeling like I make too little. I also don’t buy a lot of things nor really materialistic. My rent is $1400
thanks for your comment, like I said I am moving from OUT of the country so I have been checking stuff online to rent in advance without knowing what rent is high and what is low. Will definitely check some other places to rent
This is when your evaluate your lifestyle and make choices based on your priorities (living the good life ve savings etc.)
you will easily get by and should be able to save quite a bit. 125k is far higher than the median income. people make do with much, much less
There are several options to rent in Seatrle 125K should be sufficient for a single person.
Not much - your take home will be like $6.5K or so - after rent that leaves you with $4K. Add in a car and some other expenses (such as travel) and you won’t be saving much at all
Yes, the lifestyle is doable on that salary. 125k, so after tax somewhere around 96k (assuming 23% tax). About 8k per month, some fluctuations on Medicare etc, worst case 7.5k or so per month in some months. For the lifestyle you mentioned, it's easily doable.
