16 yoe at startups as founding team, tired of this want to try faang.. do i need to start practicing leetcode?

I was founding team member at several startups, 2 of them got acquired. My main skill in 0-1 stages of enterprise saas startups. Cloud architecture, backend, microservices, distributed systems and all that stuff. Stayed hands on the entire time, lead projects, still write code.. currently I'm an "architect" at a 150 person startup company i joined right in the beginning basically leading the architecture of the entire product. i'm tired of startups.. in my experience its mostly founders getting rich with the employees getting significantly less, yet they are expected to work their ass off with 0 work life balance under pressure working weekends and nights. i dont mind working hard, i just want to be compensated properly with real money and not false promises. I want to interview in faang, i have network in all those companies who know me and can vouch for me. do i still need to start practicing leetcode for 2 months sorting binary trees? id love to apply to netflix after reading on their culture, but they dont have an office in my country.. do they have any remote positions? TC: 220k$ in Europe #tech #leetcode #interviews #netflix

What is your current TC? net worth after previous exits? You just want everyone to help u while not helping anyone

Leetcode is easy. System design is king.

I live in Europe so my TC will be low compared to USA. TC is 220k$, based on the last funding round of my current startup my stock options are worth 1.5m$ but its monopoly money until someone buys it. Previous exit was 750k$ after 3 years.. net worth 2m$

One way to avoid leetcode: have a FAANG acquire the company you work for. Otherwise, yes, you will be asked leetcode questions. FAANG will be a culture shock in terms of the amount of process required to get anything done. Ask your contacts at big companies about the security and privacy review process.

wouldn't mind that to happen but unfortunately thats not under my control :)

You should target IC6/7 positions in faang. And Yes you have to practice LC for those positions. System design will be the other key area

Didn't you get a good deal/exit from your previous startups?

My biggest success was 750k$ after 3 years. I joined the company after seed investment. Had initial 0.8% equity as senior swe (obviously got diluted each round). Company sold for 200m$. the other one was around 70k$, i was young and naive. founders gave me peanuts in equity and sold me some fake dream about getting mega reach when the company succeeds. 99% of the employees didn't make that much, I had relatively high equity for a regular employee. Getting truely rich of startup exit as a regular employee is highly unlikely unless you are extremely lucky working for a company that had an extremely successful exit. My friends who just worked for FAANG for 10 years probably earned more money than me without the stress of a startup and the complete lack of work life balance. It's a very fun experience and i learned alot but its not necessary the best/safest career path.

I think you might want to try starting up yourself if you really want to catch up to your peers in terms of income. Even if not, I'd still suggest starting your own side hustle at the very least while looking for jobs. Best of luck with it.
