Right now my tc is 325k and I work 5-10 hours a week. I have 8 yoe so I can qualify for e6 or at least get e5 with 500k tc if I prepare and switch. I am quite good at clearing interviews. But right now I don't see a use of all the extra money, and I have other things like dating and self improvement to focus on. Should I switch now, or should I wait for an year and try out the stuff I want to try and take like a 200k loss this year by not switching? Dating and other stuff is subjective, so I may or may not get a positive result, whereas I know that switching is an easy game with garaunteed tc increase. but it would come with more work for first few months before I learn how to coast at the new company. what to do?
What have you been doing when not working? if you work that little imo you can do all three. if you’re good at clearing interviews then go clear one right now then focus on dating etc and if money isn’t a priority to u, delete blind and go enjoy your happy life. 350k is already really good but blind is just toxic making you feel like you’re missing out on 200k when really you’re not.
it takes time to settle in and get into coasting mode. I'll have to work hard for at least next 6 months (2 months prep and interviews and 4 months to settle in new company). Summer will be gone by then :( I would like more money but I don't know what for. perhaps it's blind that's making me think this way. or maybe my peers who just switched and I'm having comparison dissatisfaction. but I think what you are saying makes sense. if I'm on my death bed after a couple of years, I won't regret not making 200k more but I might regret not enjoying my time when I had the chance.
I agree with the summer thing. I’d say fully enjoy summer and prep in winter. That’s what I’m doing. No way I’m missing summer when pandemic just ended. Dating scene is probably good right now too with everyone socializing again after years of social distancing. Perfect time to live and enjoy life. Don’t miss out on enjoying life for 200k, it’s also not actually even 200k cuz of taxes. Check tax calculator to understand the true trade off. As long as you know you’ll eventually switch you’re good. You’re already at a good place.
How is twitter sre life?
How do you manage to get away with working 5-10 hours a week? Do you think It’s just you or most people with your experience work so few hours?
It's mostly me. I have been in multiple teams in 3 companies and have managed to pull it off everywhere. it's mostly about what you want from work. for me, I don't strive for career progression at all, cause I believe changing companies is more reliable path to promotion. hence I only do the minimum to get average rating every cycle, which is suprizingly really low when you really look at it. just complete the really important tasks and that's it. and because you're doing that, you get to skip many many meetings. meetings are my main source of time drain. without them I could do even better.
Hmm. Pretty interesting. How often do you change roles (given that they are the primary driver for your career growth)?
If you don't strive for career progression stay at Twitter. There would be a new startup that would pay you whatever you want eventually . Have you tried travelling if you are remote . There is no better time to do it than now . I aspire to be you !
yeah! i have been living 2 weeks in different cities every couple of months. my time at Manhattan has been epic. 10/10 would recommend.
You're taking a 200K loss by not switching? The entitlement in this post is so off the charts.
You should retire at twitter
