$2.3K 2B in Chelsea with Roommate or $4.5K Studio in Union Square
Thinking of getting back together with my ex-girlfriend when I get back to the city. She's still in school, but which is the better place to get since she will probably want to live with me once she graduates The 2B is an 11 min walk to work, and a 3 min walk to Crunch. The Studio is a 4 min walk to work, and I can use my University's gym for like $43/month #nyc YOE: 0.2 TC: $132K

In this market that 4.5k apartment better be sick. Is this a typical shoebox studio or a large space with alcoves and ways to separate areas?

4.5k per month on a $132K pay? Dudeeee.. you’re going wayyy beyond the recommended numbers. Not to mention, you’ll have precious little to save and not be ready for scenarios like job loss, medical emergency and all of that. Unless you have a tonne of savings, lot of inheritance etc. do not do this man!
Yeah I was just looking at the most expensive studio I could find haha, but real talk is it better to have a studio or is it fine sharing a 2B with my friend if I do by chance get back together with my ex. I love my potential roommate, and he’s starting work at a quant HF so I’m excited for the bools he and I will have in the city once it clears up. But if I do get back with my ex, idk if it is wise to share a 2B with him since my ex was super clear that she wants to live with me alone after graduation. Should I just say fuck her and live with my bro? We’re already talking about buying a roomba

Are you doing this to impress a girl? On 132k, find some cheap room in LES or Chinatown and save your $$$ for a down payment
4.5k is an insane amount to spend on rent, much less on a studio. Maybe if your TC was 500k+ it would be ok... but no.
How much should I spend on a studio based on my TC?
I’d say 2.5k or lower
