If this is true, I hope a solid chunk of this is also from managers and leadership layers. https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-layoffs-doubles-target-lowest-performance-ratings-non-regrettable-attrition-2022-12

Bezos needs to make it cheaper like $1 per month or for 6 months.

A PIP isn't a bad thing. I know it's heavily abused at other companies, and I'm sure it's been abused here. But I've been involved with helping about a dozen people through pips here over the years, and I've gone through one myself. By and large every manager wants to see their people succeed and directors want to have successful orgs. The pips here are structured to help people become successful. If you're feeling a pip it's usually not likely to be the fault of the pip itself. Maybe you're not a good fit for what this company needs. Maybe you could be an exceptional fit for another company. Yes I also have helped managers through pips as well, it happens way more often than you might think.
"I've been involved with helping about a dozen people through pips here over the years" In what capacity? Are you in HR? Did you already have this pro-PIP sales pitch ready? Also, I think main issue is the fixed "14.5% to 16.5% quota" mentioned in the article. This forces a manager's hand to find targets even when not justified.
Capacity: 7+ IC helping people in their larger org. Some of those people will let go and they absolutely should have been. They were useless to the point of being detrimental to their teams. The majority of them needed focus and structured help to figure out what's expected of them and how they are supposed to do that. Usually the managers have tried to do this but the managers themselves are often useless. I don't know if I agree with the quota or not. I'm sure there are that many people who could use extra help. Will they get the actual help they need though? That's a different question
L5 at amazon had to be offered 300K plus because no one wanted to work there due to pip. Msft under ballmer did this shit too. That being said great engineers still help their colleagues and management recognizes them.
Meta was already PvP because of stack ranking and individual impacc culture for PSC. Now it’s just going to make it even more insane than it was before. Previous MM quota was about 15% and it was often followed by pip if it happened more than once. Working there, I never felt psychologically safe and could not do my best work. Never got below MA, but that culture was extremely anxiety inducing.
PiP is going to save us all, kudos to great Amazon
Do they pay severance similar to Nov layoff?
ICs are more easily replaceable.
Especially junior mid. But at msft I see senior and principal at msft getting laid off too...
I saw President of the country getting laid off too
