What 3D printing can do manufacturing, Quantum computing to microchips, or solar power to energy. What the smartphone has already done for us in terms of mobility. Even crypto for finance, I get. These technologies make sense as they solve real problems. What problems is the metaverse going to solve? Using mouse and keyboard to access a computer is plenty useful; how would waiving my hands to change windows be better than a click of a button? Do you know how tiring it would be to waive your hands for hours? To me, this creates more pain points. And don’t give me that cr*p about building the foundation for the future. Foundation to solve what problem exactly? #meta
i want to watch porn but full screen doesn't feel immersive enough
Can do that today with out THE MULTIVERSE, even with your phone and a cardboard box
Not a fan of Metaverse, but actually this is kinda true. I once used Oculus to watch a bunch of blonde's dressing in bikini riding a boat. Even though the scene might seem normal in a big screen, the amount of entertainment and excitement I experienceed from the virtual reality is far for real than a big screen.
All of those technologies were useless before they weren’t
Communication and Entertainment.
I would like to meet the people that thought Bill Gates and Steve Jobs revolutionized the world when they introduced the PC and Mac. You can't be in tech and say, building for the future is crap my dude. This is not some anime.
With the metaverse we could live in an anime :)
I’m not saying building for the future is crap, I’m saying the response of “building the foundation for the future” is crap. Steve Jobs didn’t first release the iPhone and said, I know it doesn’t look very useful today, but just wait 30 years. It was hella useful on day one, that’s why it changed the entire way we interact with devices.
Education? Take one example of casino, it will higher adoption if they provide good experience. How about 3D music? Abstract animated arts? I want to see louvre but can’t travel to Paris. How about drone camera connected to my metaverse? I can borrow the “ride” for flying experience. Movies and games merged into one where you are one of the actors. More importantly, unknown unknowns… never ignore that.
These are nice use cases, thank you for a genuine answer
The industrial metaverse makes a lot of sense. I suspect the consumer side will manifest itself sadly. The virtual world will be a lot better for many than the real world
Can you elaborate on the industrial use-cases?
“The virtual world will be a lot better for many than the real world” this statement sounds awfully dangerous for mental health
All Zuck’s problems. Mostly social disorders
None. It's stupid as F. Maybe good for gaming but that's about it. Staking their future revenue on this is a really dumb bet. I also left FB not too long ago and didn't know a single person there who thought this was a good idea.
Is tiktok really solving a problem or is it just a cool thing for a specific group of people?
TikTok is fun, entertaining, enables little barrier to express creativity, and makes people money (some, a lot of money). 1 billion monthly active users is not “a specific group of people”.
