What would you prefer? In MCOL you could buy a big house. Bay Area taxes are higher. Bay Area the compensation seems to be more that can grow with stock appreciation. There is a big pay gap between the two but which one would you prefer? #tech
250k in an income tax free state lol
You still have to pay federal tax.
And very high property taxes usually
Bay area you'd still come out with way more net. Probably 100k+ difference net unless you're reckless with money
Really? Extra 250k you get 125k after tax but you pay a much higher price housing.
Sell the house when you're done working and retire in a LCOL area.
Promotions are much better in the Bay Area
Yeah, get promoted first, then transfer to remote office.
Bay Area easily. Stock appreciation, opportunities to switch without too much of an effort, career growth, working with great engineers, excellent geo location (everything’s close by), not being shackled to one manager/team/job/company. Went through this ~5 years ago and looking back, bay area is panning out pretty well.
Can you elaborate a bit on the shackled part? Curious to know what your experience was
depends, if i had a big house which was paid off in a MCOL area and no debt I'd go with MCOL and just chill. otherwise the Bay
