Currently a senior L4 at Google in a data science / product analyst role. Up for a promo this time and independent of that manager is trying to convince the director that I should be the manager for 4-5 junior analysts who I practically manage already. Considering if its worth moving to Facebook in case my promotion and people management moves both fail. My main concerns are: 1) Is there a possibility of moving to FB in a management role? 2) If not is it worth trying to move to an IC5 role? 3) My role is really good, I practically work hand in hand with the engineering manager and product manager on everything and everyone values my work. But there are a few other L4s on the team who are stuck at the level for 5-6 years. Given this is it worth moving to FB? I don't mind more work if it helps me grow quickly. Especially since I have a good TC at Google. Any thoughts / suggestions would help a lot, thank you in advance! TC: 270k #data #dataanalytics #datascience #manager
Sorry but are you a senior or no? Isn’t l5 senior? If you’re l4 - isn’t $270k really high for an l4 product analyst?
Not all roles follow senior = L5 :) I am an L4 and my title contains senior. On the TC part yes, it is significantly above the norm. It's partially due to high stock grants (my role is important to the org) and due to on call bonuses.
Oh interesting... what are on call bonuses and how high do they go? Haven’t heard of them...
Did you make a move OP?
I don’t recommend moving, L5 is not a manager role at FB. Generally you have to start with L6 = M1. Very rarely there are L5 = M0.
How’s the comp for DS at M1?
Thanks, that makes sense. Would L5 manager at Google be enough to get an interview for M1 to FB or is there a minimum YOE needed. I have about 7-8 right now.
