Rant still looking for a job. Just reached out to a recruiter who told me that 75% of applicants applying from job boards are international candidates. Many falsely claim to be US citizens, going through entire rounds of interviews and wasting people's time. I understand you might be qualified for the role or wish to move to the US, but please refrain from submitting your application if it's clear you can't stay here. Thanks. Some of us, born here with extensive experience, have been laid off due to this overpriced economy. Don't want to discount those of you who are over qualified and are abroad we def need the talent, but pls just chill if you're at cushy job you applying is discounting some us lol. BTW Would love a referral if any tech company is hiring! Full stack dev 5 years of experience, typescript / python / golang. Runway left: $30K
This explains why they ask me about my citizenship so aggressively.
They ask everyone.
But, wouldn't once on the application be good enough. Why also confirm with the recruiter both before and after the interviews?
HR should be able to weed all these people out before they make it any real interview with the team or hiring manager.
Yeah, it’s not hard and seem invasive but asking for certain PII and then blacklisting people is the way to go. HR just doesn’t want to put in the work
HR should ask Photo-ID first.
Yeah, it's why they aggressively ask your citizenship status. As a hiring manager I had I don't know how many people from Sudan or similar countries applying to my roles
Only 75%?! You go to any Eng team in tech companies, 60%~80% from a country starting with an I
Yeah damn those Irish
Damn, didn't know Iran had so many tech graduates.
People can lie about that. I know most people are lying on their resumes. If you look at some specific job postings, there is no way that many people have the experience they are looking for.
Being corrupt and being dumb are not mutually exclusive.
It’s HR’s only job to vet candidate for their ability to work in USA. They should fire the HR first
No many companies but Meta and a few others do background checks before a final round of interviews (onsite).
DM for Justworks (its NYC hybrid though)
Thanks you DM'ing now
Can I DM too?
Everyone has “doesn’t need sponsorship” as one of the “basic qualifications”.
They still lie till they get to the final stage
How's Oracles interview process? Currently at 250 leet is that enough?
Fake all the ways as US citizens till offer stage then ask for sponsorship is their strategy but it can backfire or blacklist
Ok Cramer
Yes. I am him
