I got offer from PANW and Google. Google is L7 and Palo Alto Networks is Distinguish level. Both offer are very close. I am in team matching phase with Google. Palo Alto Networks is down. I see career and compensation opportunity. If you would you which one you take it ? I never worked at FAANG before. TC 500 #Google #PaloAltoNetworks
Offer details and what is your background
Data background with AI/ML. PANW offered 270K base + %25 + 400K RSU Google haven't offered yet. Recruiter told me it could be 300K base rest is same.
400k per year?

No, join us
Distinguished engineer sounds like a well esteemed title
Yeah But my understanding it is Google's L7
Yoe? What does crossover do
How was your l7 interview? Can you provide some details? Thx
Wow how did you become L7? Please share some career advice. Isn’t PANW known to do very good work? I would go there. Google is bloated and people just make up work to do and do it until it gets canceled by their L7, and then they scrutinize the nods and gestures of their L7 to figure out what they should maybe work on next. So if you join Google, your job would entail a lot of canceling projects and having your facial movements scrutinized
Yah a DE and PANW can have very high levels impact, especially in AI/ML.
In terms of stock growth, I would recommend PANW. Go with google if you want a bigger brand on your resume.
I think i want a bigger brand on my resume. I feel the brand resolve future career moves
Probably, I would not sleep on having the largest cybersecurity company on your resume but yah it doesn’t have the same weight as Google across multiple tech sectors if that is your goal.
If Google TC is close it’s a better brand on resume and will have way better benefits. Only benefit for PANW is stock growth potential but that’s TBD
Do you think it will double it ? The current offer Google better than PANW
I don’t know, I hope so being a shareholder, this might be a slow year based on earnings first two quarters and cut guidance so might take a couple years at least to double if it does. Quarterly vesting. They can be pretty stingy with RSU refresh if you can get any. ESPP is good with 15% discount on lowest price on buy date for two years after you enroll. Looking at other benefits we suck. We only offer $1000 total 401k match so you max match with $2k. Okay basic insurances benefits. Parental leave is weak. Lack of free meals if you’re in office. They say flexible or unlimited PTO but very team dependent. Some managers you’d be unlikely to get more than 3 weeks approved total per annum. Difference on just 401k match alone makes Google package worth another guaranteed $10k+ plus tax benefit. Maybe not significant to you though.
My partner has worked at PANW for many years. The company has grown exponentially for the past 3~4 years since cyber security has become more important. FYI, her network growth outperformed mine for the past 3 years. Do i see the same upside from here? I personally don't think so but who knows. Also, according to what i have seen, working at PANW doesn't guarantee a good wlb. She works pretty long hours very often... For google, as a person who wants a big name on resume, i still think google is worth it, esp. with L7 level. That means something. You may bet on google cleaning up their shit and become competitive again with AI craze. Truly amazing you get good offers in this job market. Good luck with your choice.
Thank you for your comments. I believe Google could be good choice for me. As you mentioned having a google on my resume one benefit, better wlb another and also i believe google will become pioneer on ai too :) worst case i can move another faang or openai with google on resume. If i choose Panw, i dont think it will give the same reputation like google. The reputation cannot be created in one or two years.
I agree. I am not a "prestige" chaser or even care much. But PANW is an apple in cyber security space against, CRWD, Wiz, or whatnots. No offense, for a general SWE, I don't think that means much unless you are a security engineer or sth.
What are the offers?
