[Asking for a friend] I got laid off from FAANG with 8+ of job experience. Then I took a break for four months and started interviewing. However, the market conditions are so bad right now. I gave 10+ on-sites so far, and a few of them went well, but I ended up with no job offers. I moved from Amazon to a different FAANG company in April 2022, when I landed five job offers. The interview performance has not changed much(it got better), but no one is extending an offer. What should I do, folks? I had a dream of starting my own company. Should I take that plunge now? I have a boomerang interview with Amazon coming up. Should I go back to Amazon? I'm tired of giving interviews at this point. How do i justify my gap to employers? I already have a gap of 8 months on my resume. I feel like a loser at this point 😔 Blind tax: 445K -> 0 NW: 1.3 MM #software #layoffs
Well, start working on your company. You can continue interviewing on the side. If someone asks you about the gap in the future, tell them you were working on your company ;)
Depends on how stable you want to be. If you prefer stability, it’s better to keep interviewing. You’ll land on something
Similar experience, didn’t get offer for good interviews at onsite, got 2 offers recently and I literally nailed all the rounds. Room for error is very minimal.
Can you share your prep and interviewing strategy please?
Basically increase your chances of clearing the interviews, and work backwards depending on the timeline. Leetcode solve more of array and string , system design pick any website/app you have visited and do its system design targeting 35mins.
I’d just chill if nothing pans out and enjoy life until the market rebounds sometime next year. Gaps are fine but they are just pickier right now.
Don't worry about the gap. You have 8yoe, nobody minds if you take a break for 1-2 years
Well of course you aren’t getting any job offers. You have to stop giving interviews and be the one getting interviewed my dude. Then you’ll get offers 😉
Op your friend Indian?
Yes, but he switched to H4
Don’t worry OP , Blind people know “asking for a friend” is actually for themselves
"Asking for a Friend". Keep interviewing, but spare some time to build a startup, and put that on your resume to fill the gaps.
SWE?
Yes
