Hi Folks, I have over 11+ years of experience in Big Data,Scala,Spark and AWS , I have applied for contract big data position with Apple through (TCS,HCL,Infosys,Tech Mahindra and so many other vendors) on 50$/hr , my question is why wages in large bay area tech for contract positions are damn low ? Do Apple hiring managers know about it ? Not just Apple many tech companies in Bay Area CA pay super low wages to contractors just bringing this up to blind tech community, question are these companies trying to replace local US talent with off shore techies ? Probably they just want to move these jobs to offshore In East coast senior roles are around 120$/hr-180$/hr corp to corp before pandemic but now even in East coast rates went down to 80$/hr-100$/hr corp to corp , how to fix bay area contract consulting world I have been fighting with bay area since 2016 I joined PayPal on 70$/hr corp to corp in 2016 now even with high inflation the rates in 2022 are back to 65$/hr to 70$/hr. Thanks
Exactly this ^
Apple is probably paying 200k to witch. They eat half of it before it comes to you
For 50 an hour you are better off doing your own thing
Own thing like what ? I am on h1b
You should apply for full time positions. You have enough work experience to qualify for L5-L6 role.
H1b visa slavery doesn't let me apply I can't un chain my self
Why can’t you leave your job? Being on H1 does not mean you can’t change jobs
The last time I did contract I had 10+ YOE I and got $90/hr on a W2 from the staffing agency. In hindsight, I probably could have asked for even more.
A good question for WITCH founders like Ratan Tata, Murthy, they have been hailed as hero’s in cringe crowd in LinkedIn post lecturing about WLB, professionalism not going to go into that debate or question it but why their WITCH body shops allow this poor WLB labor abuse in their firms? It is not the Apple who is paying poor to these body shops in Bay Area.
Run to where ?
You are being taken advantage of. Non-tech jobs requiring 3 YOE in the Bay start contractors around $60/hr. Senior roles start at $80/hr+!
Even 80 and 60 are not enough in corp to corp we have to pay 30% to employer , in East coast senior roles are around 180-160 junior are around 75-80
* keyword "non-tech" * So yeah, don't accept $50/hr that's even underpaid by non-tech standards. Another agency will come and offer you much more. In my opinion, I would only take lowball offers if it's 100% remote and I can work 2-3 jobs at once lol

Lol the difference is eaten by the witch
Wat
Witch is an acronym for the main contracting companies, similar to faang. They take a lot of the money that the contractor earns.
