I have recently received an offer from Epic Games but I am not sure of the stability within Epic given the recent layoffs that they have gone through. Can someone hep me understand the stability and culture within Epic and if it is a good organisation to join? Verbal Offer : 250K GBP (UK office) Current TC : 200K GBP Any advise or inputs are appreciated. #epicgames
I’d be more worried about the stability of google in this new post-search era.
still more stable than anyone else in games but the games industry as a whole is a mess right now. Fortnite still makes money, the lego stuff is hot. benefits are great. bonuses will never be what they were 5 years ago. i've been gone a couple years but i miss the place.
How is the overall management culture within? And wlb?
Despite Fortnite being wildly successful, they aren’t profitable, not sure it’s a good idea.
Wonder how ? They are pouring all that infinite Fortnite cash back into the business to chase a wild goose ( multiverse )?
Yes that is my concern as well. I am not sure if this multiverse thing is a good idea and i am trying to convince myself if at all do I believe in the idea. 🙄
Sounds like you want to take it anyway (: WLB is fantastic for most of tech/eng. Assume your bonuses will be $0, and if that’s ok with you, take it. I wouldn’t be too concerned about layoffs.
Can you elaborate on the bonus part! I have read that the bonuses have been reduced by 50% in the last one year. How is the situation now? PS: I have another offer from Bloomberg, if I remove the “in the air” bonuses of epic its much more than the base of what epic is giving, so its really upto me to take a decision.
They’re bonuses, don’t rely on them as income. They’re still very decent. Make the choice based off what will make you happy, don’t overthink it.
What's your YoE and what's the breakdown of your Bloomberg offer? I think those are important factors in helping you decide.
10 yoe. Bloomberg offer : 170k base + 50k bonus.
That's really solid. Depends what you're looking for at this point in your career. The WLB at Bloomberg will be unmatched, and it's very stable (not sure if you could say the same about Epic) Personally I'd probably sacrifice the extra 30k in favour of the stability and WLB.
take it right now! epic is so back!
What if we sprinkle in a little Disney magic, does that sweeten the deal? 🪄
Just saw the news!! Its a big win for epic I guess, given its a huge amount!! “1.5billion”
Layoffs are a fact of life in the tech and games industry. US Employees stopped treating employers as live-long commitments back in the 80s/90s, why would employers treat employees like life long commitments today?
That is true, but I would still want to chose a company with a better stability or I should say less probability of laying off people.
