Combat ops are under $1t. Not the best use of my tax money, but holding the balance of power was less than 30b/yr (and falling), and 3k people in non combat roles. There's two different issues here: did we execute the war historically in a sane way? No, we should have either backed a tyrant we liked, or wiped them all off the board. Was pulling out a good idea? No.

Don’t forget about the hundreds of thousands of Afghans killed for no legitimate reason. Don’t forget the tens of thousands of soldier who will suffer from PTSD, the broken families, and the spouses and children some of whom will suffer abuse from this trauma.

Worth it? No one can tell. We didn't have a 2nd 9/11, one could argue that's because we fought in the middle east. Was the execution the best? No.

So you think “no 2nd 911” is a win? There are hundreds of countries in this world, they don’t have 911 and don’t need to invade Afghanistan

History repeats. US will never give up on interfere other countries’ internal affairs. As long as politicians happy.
