I recently had lunch with my manager friend. Let's call her Cindy. She told me what she just pulled off prior to this perf period. Cindy had a report who left less than a year ago to another team. He performed well and left on good terms. Before this perf period his new manager reached out and informed Cindy that he wasn't doing well, that he might have to put him on PIP based on feedback so far. He asked if Cindy would be willing to take him back to avoid this scenario. Cindy immediately met with the report and asked him to come back since she had headcount. No mention of impending PIP or that she talked to his manager, etc, just that the team would be happy if he came back. Long story short, the report did come back. Cindy is happy. The other manager is happy to not PIP anyone. And I'm sure the report is relieved to be back. Cindy and the other manager are savagely awesome! Edit: this isn't fake but it's blind so believe it or not, right? I'm just sharing what Cindy shared with me.
Politics as usual. Got any other stories?
The real takeaway from this is google has pip?
No PIP at Apple no matter how bad you are!
Perfect place to chill and vest.
Whaaaaat
Interesting use of the word savage
Definitely got plenty of clicks though LOL, well done OP
OP works at Google, he knows about SEO

As an Amazonian I can only say one word: Lol
At amazon the new manager would say “you can’t have him back, I need to meet my URA quota”
So Cindy is savage?
Wow, this is awesome. Cindy deserves to be a people manager.
As does the other counterpart. He let go of a low performer (poor match), while setting him up for success, and also not losing him to another company.
