I see companies slowly posting new jobs everyday - Stripe, netflix, facebook, google, amazon!! Is there a lot of competition out there for all these jobs ? And again why do they want to hire outsiders while they laid off many competent employees themselves ??!!
Isn’t most hiring done in new year
They could be hiring for next year. Takes a few months I'm sure.
Fiscal calendars don’t always align with the standard calendar year. So budget can open up before the end of the calendar year and hiring is then possible.
Salaries recalibration. Fire expensive, hire cheap
It's illegal in the US to conduct layoffs and then hire new people to complete the exact same job duties. If you fire expensive (senior roles), I suppose you could get away with hiring several junior people to replace them.
GMan82. It's only for like a six month period that you cannot hire for the exact same role after layoffs.
Was hearing on radio that September is hiring month because year is coming to an end as lot of budget is left, but not sure how if it holds true for SWEs as well
Radio is still around?
Yep it's still in the cars
Looking at comments by Buffet, I think recession is around the corner.
Buffet is also the same person who thrives off of recessions.
Recession has been. What u on

Layoffs reset unvested stock to zero giving companies some breathing room to achieve EPS targets for few quarters. Most layoffs at Adobe were people with lots of unvested stock
Next year(2024) is an election year, so market will be slow and companies will be Cautious in making growth plans. Any open positions will be closed this year, so managers try hard to hire as much as possible.
I dont know what is happening but it does feel like there are more interesting non-eng roles opening up. That gives me hope. Also, companies can't perpetually not hire bc to do so means that they aren't really growing as a company. And to NOT grow while others are just puts the leaders and the company at risk of losing. No one likes losing. What do you do if you don't like to lose? You hire to grow >> more roles are opening back up. A somewhat simplistic view of things but bottomline is -- hiring has to resume after all of the firing, furlough and layoffs.
Don’t worry they won’t hire anyone
