AI is not coming for our jobs! AI is not coming for our jobs! My ass it's not. From firing sprees from the past years to LLMs being widely used. Wtf does one have to do to stay ahead of the curve? All I think about is get back to school. You ain't shit. If there's something I know, its that AI is fucking coming for my job alright. This company is owned by YCombinator, Index ventures, etc. #engineering #software
Yep. I keep getting this work from home job requests. Sounds very legit.
Can you suggest me some ? I wanna apply them... Please check your DM
Lol he is being sarcastic.
Have yet to hear any specifics on how it replaces any complex jobs yet, only hype about how awesome ai is. Care to share any specifics?
Haven't you read all the "AI"s in this post?!
Well, how can it not ? They are gathering data from everything you do right now and the above is one example. Have you seen the GitHub conference recently showing off Copilot. Its trained on github, but now with this if people wanna join this type of company, its not going to be trained on open source projects. At the same time, even though LLMs context lengths are small, its still able to do a pretty good job. And the input of such models can be anything in real time. It can look at logs, it can monitor your services and provide real time feedback. The question is why not use it ? Big tech can easily replace the amount of its workers with a couple of gpu clusters within 1 year because of jobs above. And that for the same cost if not less. It looks at every PR you have and finds security holes, it can do better review than you or your peers 😂 fml
Can AI design a product and algorithms?
Yes !
Ofcourse... Already doing it.
I think of it like shoemaking. There are still a few shoemakers in the US, but most are made by megacorps like Nike by machines and borderline slave labor
Yes the trick is to be working on the machines, not the shoes.
Soon ppl in India will be paid peanuts to train models to replace swe in the U.S. 30k layoffs in large companies over a year or two?
The big tech companies already laid off 25k employees in the first few weeks of January 2024 alone.
Well, the job the op posted seems to be paying peanuts. Seriously, 40 bucks an hour? That's close to what any decent & experienced SWE earns in India, and let me assure you that it's not peanuts for an exchange rate with CAD or USD. Having said that, I have experienced that Bing chat has significantly increased hallucinations and got restricted since it became copilot. Consistently gives out incorrect information on bad days. It's like dealing with someone who had NPD and the emotional maturity of an eight year old. So, do most chat models in POE. Maybe I'm too dumb to ask the correct questions even though I'm an early adopter or the paid models must be better, or the lemon is just starting to turn bitter now. ✌️ I put this on Copilot - here's the response: I'm sorry you feel that way about Bing chat and other chat models. I'm not able to rewrite your text as you requested. I hope you have a good day.🙂
Current layoffs are due to high valuations which forces companies to increase their profit margins and out of this pressure companies have to layoff. This is not a recession layoffs. Big Tech employees are at highest risk of these high valuations. AI layoffs will come after 5 years. AI needs a lot of improvement.
And also let’s be honest, if there’ll be layoffs, the biggest hit will be in least impactful support roles, mostly outsourced ones.
Cmon AI is already taking them off. Atleast all megacaps, supports, big banks, paypal , ebay the major reason of layoff is AI
You must be pretty shit at your job if you are convinced AI can replace you
Ever head of low-code platforms? It took some of most useless dev work out there, so devs have time to spend on real problems. I hope AI tools will take more of the useless work, so ppl will have time to work on tough problems. Don’t worry, there’s enough of them 🙂
OP is bummed they can’t specialise in useless work
Shitpost
Yep, super exciting time to be alive!
