HYPOTHETICALLY….wink wink, I conduct anywhere from 30-50 interviews per year at Amazon for all levels from intern - L6. One interesting thing I’ve noticed more recently are exceptional candidates, admittedly mostly Asian, getting rejected. Meanwhile mediocre/bad candidates that fall under the DEI umbrella are given offers to meet new DEI requirements recently introduced at Amazon. As a non-DEI person it does not feel fair and I only give LC hard to potential DEI candidates, and give others easy/medium questions. TC 400k Edit 1: I am not racist, just fighting injustice. If anybody does well on an LC hard, I will be singing their praises from the rooftops Edit 2: I don’t even understand most of the LC Hards I ask. I pass the candidate if they are able to solve and explain it in a way that I also can understand
Especially recently Amazon has introduced DEI requirements for orgs. Even in the last review cycle SDMs were asked to take DEI heavily into account
That was not the question, OP. Mind answering it?

Why the f we need LC hard in the first place
Exactly for moments like these
Sure, “New.”
I am being cautious by using old company account
You are a D-bag if this is true. People like you are the reason we have DEI. Just assess candidates to the same standards objectively.
You have it backwards. I'm doing this because DEI was introduced. I agree all candidates should be on the same playing field
Wrong. Exact opposite. OP cannot assess the candidates the same. If they do and the candidates are equal the DE&I option will always win. Further even if the DE&I is less of a candidate they will likely still win as they are given preferential treatment/extra “points”. So where is the fairness or equality in that?
By doing so, you may reject a good candidate who needs a job. In the end, color or race should not decide if a person should get a job or not. Unfortunately, there is a "Reservation" system at Amazon. I am an Indian and was sick of the reservation system back in India. A friend of mine who is considered a scheduled tribe got into a super awesome university even though he got similar test scores. It's unfair, but that doesn't mean you must act unfairly. If I were you, I would ask the same level of questions to everyone. Just my 2 cents
Point taken but doing this is my own way of trying to equal the playing field
How does color of skin impact any of this? Can they pass the leetcode question? If yes then there's no problem.
Anything instituted to purposefully pass over a more qualified candidate for one less qualified based on anything other than their qualifications is bullshit.
Agreed
I am in the EU and I am curious, what are those DEI requirements?
I am sure the exact details are confidential. However I do know there has been a public and increased emphasis at Amazon for DEI. In my tenure at Amazon, we used to not care at all and would hire the best candidate. However things have changed recently.
So who exactly fall in the DEI category in the US? In Europe, it’s any non white person. So Asian, Black, Arabs, etc.
Do me a favor and start giving us 30 year old white dudes LC easys in the name of anti-DEI
If you are a 30 year old white dude, I will give you either LC easy or medium depending on my mood and the level you are applying for.
Bro is straight up admitting racism lmao “I’ll let whites and Asians in but make it harder for DEI groups” Fuck me I hope you never interview me

OP is admitting to breaking the law and exposing their employer to significant legal liability.
Lmao apparently giving hard leetcode problems is against the law now, who woulda thought! (You're braindead AF in case you were wondering credit karma)
It’s not giving hard leetcode problems the issue. It’s the bias/discrimination against DEI.
