Hey All, I got an offer from AMD in Austin for 2 positions at MTS level. After a lot of negotiations, the recruiter said that this is the best offer she could give: Base: 140k RSUs : 30k/3 Annual Bonus: 15% Relocation: 28k Sign-on : 0 Current TC: 171k, Hillsboro, G7 Intel. (9 YoE). They are especially not budging on the base salary (they checked with both teams) and explicitly told me that that's the highest they offer at MTS level in their org. I have countered with increase in RSUs to 50k/3, Relocation to 33k and sign-on bonus of 25k. Can someone tell me if the information provided by recruiter looks accurate? Is there any room for negotiation? What should be my counter? Thanks in advance! #engineer #interview #hardware #amd #mts #austin
Ask for 150k base and 50k stocks. Also you can try to push for smts
Thanks! I tried asking about SMTS and base , but it was hard pass from both teams. Requested for 50k though.
What's the position? As in what kind of work will you be doing? The pay could move around based on the domain. Also, is it the same offer for both the positions?
Both are in post silicon validation domain. AMD asked to choose the team first , which I did, but when the numbers didn't add up, recruiter went to the other team if they could bump me higher. However, the other team came in at the same base salary and MTS level.
Cool. I've worked a bit in post silicon validation. Have you checked the numbers? The total TC is 150k right? (165k with the possible bonus) Seems a bit low for 9 YOE. Is this with or without a master's? Won't it be lower than your current TC?
The new TC is even less than what you make? No brainer to reject this. Also austin is not cheap anymore.
The online calculators are not too accurate. Austin has indeed become very expensive.
This is true. In terms of expenses and cost of living , I think Portland and Austin are equivalent. If they provide me the numbers I proposed, I might consider it based on the learning that I will have at the new position ( which, honestly Intel doesn't provide) . 😃
Getting better offer numbers looks to be general consensus due to the possibility of Austin turning into a higher CoL city. Questions: has anyone got MTS level in Austin for 150k base? What is the max stock allocation for MTS?
AMD doesn’t pay well, lots of MTS at AMD are between 115-135k base.
I'd say it's not an attractive offer unless you want to move to Austin in which case it's ok since it gets you there.
Another aspect is AMD stock appreciation and state tax. Which will add atleast 10% to your take home.
Pay at AMD is always low. I have liked the teams there and cleared the interviews twice but could never come to an agreement with the TC. Although, Folks made lot of money due to recent stock boom.
Ask for more stocks.
