I’m grateful to hold offers from all 4. Assuming TC is similar relatively speaking, what would be the best choice for a new grad? I was thinking that overall ranking from what I’ve seen and heard would be Coinbase > AWS AI > Atlassian = Twitter. - Amazon: I know blind hates Amazon but I interned on an awesome team that overall has good WLB, high visibility, and a great manager so the decision is a bit hard. - Coinbase: by far the most coveted of the 4. They have the most upside, and by far the best product/engineering talent on average. - Twitter: personally love the product and good culture but company from what I hear is subpar. Friend there is job searching and says there 0 growth, no meaningful launches in years, and still struggling with monetization. - Atlassian: great culture from what I hear but don’t care for the products. I would love to hear your thoughts and why? Thanks so much! TC 0, YOE 0
AWS ai is attractive. I would avoid Twitter. Why do you think Coinbase is so good? Is crypto a huge thing? At least in my circle it isn't. Atlassian is also good. So between AWS ai and atlassian for me.
I think digital currency is the future. Atlassian is good but it’s really between AWS and Coinbase. And it’s really hard for me to choose bc I got so lucky landing on a great team at AWS.
Looking at coinbase staff eng roster it’s mediocre at best so don’t bank on its engineering talent
Planning on transition to product. Met the CPO back when we were both at Google. I wouldn’t say mediocre it’s good but the product talent is top. However Dropbox does have a high engineering bar so I see where you’re coming from :)
On average Coinbase has more percentage of people from top companies. And their exec team is pretty much all from FANGMULLA.
Twitter application came out two weeks ago, how tf did you get an offer so quickly?
Offer numbers for all 4 please.
Why are you assuming the TC is similar? If you already have the offers than there should be no assumptions.
Atlassian or AWS AI I interned at Atlassian, so I can speak to my experience there. Atlassian is an awesome company that lives its values and has an amazing company culture that's inclusive, friendly, collaborative, and scholarly. They also have great WLB and actually care about your well-being -- you're not just another code monkey. That said, I think their products are definitely less interesting. Overall, I think it depends on the product and team you're on. Their new grad offer base is a bit lower than I hoped for, but it's still competitive. Seeing as you had a positive experience with Amazon, I think that should be weighted more heavily considering you know what to expect and you seem interested in the product. Twitter does seem washed up... Although, I've heard good things? Honestly, I would avoid Coinbase. Everyone I know who has interned there has had a negative experience and moved on elsewhere. They are very open about being a "mission first company" -- meaning they are open about the fact that they don't value WLB. I had a virtual onsite with them and got bad, bad vibes. Even my interviewers warned me about the lack of structure and WLB. Furthermore, their new grad offer equity is rather low for the time commitment you'll be signing on for. And, until they IPO, those RSUs are worthless despite the high base salary.
Coinbase base is pretty average actually. Got a staff eng offer and their base was $230K
We're not talking about staffers you fool
Coinbase engineering is pretty sub par although the people are very nice. Twitter has good eng but it's old and moves slow. But it's it's got great perks, wlb, and beat my coinbase offer.
Is the offer from Amazon in the same part of the company you interned with, or something adjacent where you'd have a sense of the managers and teams? From friends' experience there, the place varies a lot (generally true at very large companies.) If you know the part where you are landing will be like where you interned, would probably pick there. If noy would avoid Amazon. Are you a crypto true believer? If not, would skip coinbase. Atlassian is a good place for a new grad if you want a good WLB and maximize learning and investment in your skills, but it isn't the best place for fast promotion or as much a name brand if you plan to job hop to maximize your TC fast Haven't known anyone at Twitter, so can't comment, but also don't have anything negative to say about them. For each, where is the job located, or it f 100% remote is there a salary adjustment based on your location? I don't need the answer, but do your due diligence on cost of living unless that is 100% the same across all 4 offers
Coinbase
Go with atlassian if you care about WLB. You will realize how important those atlassian products are after you have worked in the software industry for a bit. Almost every startup/mid sized company uses JIRA, confluence etc.
I’ve used them for years. They’re important and useful, but hate them especially Jira lol. I like Atlassian but I just don’t see how I could pick them over AWS AI or Coinbase.
I wouldn’t recommend Atlassian for new grads. Old code base. You will get bored very quickly. Would recommend seniors come to rest and vest.
