AWS Mid-year Review = URA Target on Overdrive

Ah, so it’s the time for mid-year reviews for Managers here at AWS. That must mean a good look at who’s doing well and who’s up for promo and where we can add more value? HAHA. Nope. It means who are we firing in the next 6 months so we can make our URA target? or even better, exceed that target. URA is nothing new. But it is without doubt the central driving force behind any L7+ leadership decision right now. We’re hiring? Of course, but only because we need to fire. And if you’re a manager not willing to fire, but instead want to do your job and coach people to greatness, well, you’ll be soon out too. If anyone shows any below-bar performance in any element of their role, despite greatness in any other area - expect to be in Focus sometime soon.
