Thank god done with interviewing. Trying to decide which offer to take. Bloomberg: Base:155k Bonus: 25k sign on:20k relocation:10k TC: 210k AWS: Base: 148k sign on: 45k,37k RSU: 955 sharing TC:200k Did not negotiate AWS yet, but wondering people’s input on this. Both in NYC, Amazon team is based in seattle and dc. Negotiate to let me stay in nyc. That is probably comp is lower. I think AWS could go up to 240k even maybe? YOE:1 TC:🥜🥜 #bloomberg #aws #offer

Bloomberg is a cool company
What makes you say that
what about career growth and exit opportunities?
Having worked at both places … I think Bloomberg will give you the best WLB, and in the first few years good career growth, but once you are a few years into it you might yearn for bigger and better paying opportunities like FAANG. AWS on the other hand is a somewhat stressful environment I’ve seen sooo many L4s (and some L5s) quit the team due to stress less than a year into the job. Great place to learn though if you can deal with the stress.
I wanna learn and then start my own thing. Don’t wanna sell my soul for any particular company. I am just worried i won’t get a chance to work on full cycle of a new product launch in bloomberg. But i feel like the wlb would give me a chance to work on a side project or so
thank you for your perspective
FWIW, AWS is the worst team at Amazon according to Blind. Do with that as you may, but I wouldn't risk it. Bloomberg, like any other company, is based on the team. But their training program seems solid and you will still learn a lot as a new hire. Also, almost zero chances of ever getting fired/PIPed. Plus, our internal mobility is pretty great, so if your first team isn't a match it's relatively easy to move around and learn new things (you don't have to wait a year, though what skills you being with you may or may not matter depending on the team)
And you will get lots of chances of launching new products! The nice thing about our flat structure (which I otherwise hate) is that a new hire can absolutely lead a new product. Just make your interests clear to your boss and your skip level. And again, if that doesn't pan out within a reasonable amount of time, there are other teams!
that is great to hear! what about working on some large distributed system? I know bloomberg has its own data center and so right?
Hoping for more insights
I’m also deciding between those 2 and I’m leaning towards Bloomberg bc I’m interested in fintech and the team i interviewed with at AWS was more networking focused which i wasnt that interested in
man i hope i get to this exact situation in a few weeks. interviews grinding me down.
just grinding man you will be fine!
