I got an offer for L5 AWS TAM. I wanted some insight on the work culture and overall WLB. Also, does Amazon put ppl in PIP or fire just like that? Or were they genuinely underperforming? The reason I ask is I read a lot of horror stories on the net and dont know if they were exaggerated or genuinely true...TIA for any inputs.

OP - how are you enjoying the job so far?
Its a good job. My friend is TAM. Join this not for money but if you are passionate for cloud tech. Its a mix role, where you need to learn a lot of things. Strike out certs in initial days before you get busy. They give 3 months to ramp up. Amazon take LP seriously. money is good .

So a lot of the pip stuff is exaggerated. AWS is a generally good org. If you have a horrible org and a horrible manager there is a chance you might end up on a pip or dev in a year if you don’t perform well. Performing well is generally not hard at amazon so long as you learn the leadership principles, and are not overrated for your job. If you are decent at what you do, you will be fine. If your don’t get along with your manager you can always move teams, so long as you have not burned your bridges already in six months.
