Hi All, from a witch company with 12 yrs experience. I recently was asked by a recruiter to appear for loop and I applied to AWS. What should I expect really? My background is purely azure services, but that is just past 3-4 years, before that I was primarily working in SAS which is an archaic technology and that is as far as my programming experience goes. Obviously I can write PowerShell scripts and all, but my dev experience is limited to SAS. I do have a competing offer from my client itself at 180k but that might have legal obligations to join. Can you guide with my background, how to prepare for this role? I don't want to give my present TC as it's pathetic , but will really love your inputs. Recruiter told to only prepare LPs but tbh while I have interviewed a lot, this will be my first interview in 12 years. Looking for pointers, and also what TC to typically ask for? NYC area. Sr solutions architect. And technically what should I prepare? Edit 1: I do have AWS SA certification but tbh I just sat for it as the coupon I got was expiring in a day, I just looked up a few resources for a day comparing azure and aws services, and it seems got lucky getting certified, I don't know if that holds any value. As far as azure is concerned, I did roll out scalable solutions Enterprise wide but mostly using the services with minimal/low code solutions. #aws #amazon #amazonaws
At L5, it 80% technical of the 6 things they tell you to study. 20% LP. I’ve seen ppl lacking in technical and got the job bc of LP, so yea, need to know LP well
Pretty conversant in SQL with good experience in tuning, should I try to drive the interview that way if that is at all possible? Or I should be doing LC algorithms and stuff?
It’ll be rapid fire questions from the 6 categories. Take a look at the materials for AWS SA certification. For ex. Describe the 6 network layer. There’s probably no LC. Only python stuffs for things like what’s python data types. Each question from each category will get harder
Technical stuff is important. They look hardcore at LPs
For an SA, which area of technical stuff you want someone to concentrate on? I have 2-3 weeks prep atleast which I can do. System design is good, but mostly in azure world. Also what TC do you think will be worth it?
SAs aren't really that technical. You could probably find some good information online about what they interview on. I didn't interview for SA externally. for TC, just go to levels.fyi and ask them for the same amount you see on the highest offer
Why aren't you just trying for SA roles at tech companies instead
The SA Associate certificate is a mandatory certificate for every SAs in AWS. So for AWS it does have value. Also in the interview they dont except you to answer or explain your solutions using AWS so you can absolutely use Azure. Being an SA and interviewing SAs for a couple of years I can tell that the platform doesn’t matter as long as you can explain your solution
Thanks a lot, do you mind if I reach out in pm with a few queries?
All the best!
