There are so many options - Kumon, Mathnasium, RSM, Art of ProblemSolving, Khan Academy, IXL, apps, SmileZemi tablet - what academic enrichment programs are most effective for teaching solid mathematical reasoning and providing acceleration? I have a 5 yo and 11 yo. It seems Kumon might be better until facts are very solid, but it is quite dull for my kids. Beast Academy is more enriching but doesn’t seem to help as much with school acceleration.
I used to work at Kumon. The kids are on their own to do lots and lots of worksheets. I don't recommend it. Just have them watch khan academy videos or something.
Why do you need acceleration? Are your kids bored and unhappy with their math in school?
They find it easy and are not really engaged in it; want them to be challenged in a positive way and for them to be prepared to do well in higher level math
I feel AoPS is really good for solid understanding. But if you are in a traditional school (with worksheets based exercises), I doubt if AoPS actually improves interest in the school math curriculum. You could do it on the side to make sure kids are learning
I would have loved beast academy as a kid
Kummon is really pathetic. I would never choose that option for children. There is a risk of child losing interest in maths
