I received an E5 offer from FB a couple of months back which I rejected in favour of a short term stint (< 6 months) at my friend’s company to help him out. Is it possible for me to restart negotiations with the recruiter. Would love an answer from a recruiter or someone who’s experienced this
Tried this once, they had moved on and said no
How things went at your friends? Was it worth?
Kinda, he wanted me to help him out with AWS to setup a website and backend infra for his app. Nothing challenging but loved the freedom of making architectural decisions
Couldn’t you have done that while working at FB?
Definitely reach out ... and also mention that you had to put your career on a backseat to help out a friend ... what ever the result is , they will surely appreciate that .. also , if you could get an offer once , you can again... ask the recruiter to keep you in mind for when positions open up again .
It's too late now, but why didnt you tell the recruiter you wanted to join but to push out start date by 6 months ...? Talk to your recruiter, there's no official policy but might work.
Pls be honest, did you found a startup w/ your friend but it failed in a few months? Hard to believe anybody would turn down FB offer just to help a friend. Anyway you can ask FB, but your excuse does smell fishy.
Not trying to be rude but how does it matter? If they planned a startup and decided to let go a FB offer that’s courageous. We should encourage that and celebrate it rather than fixating on the failure ( which we do not know happened). I do not see anything fishy here. Just my two cents, but you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that.
Of course I wanted to help my friend out! Cause he’s really talented and I’ve worked with him for many years now right from college. Plus, I’m talented too. I had offers from G L4 & F E5. And I’m at an age where I can afford risks. And who’s to say I’m not going to continue working at the startup while cashing in at FB!
TBH you may be less talented than you think...
TBH you are definitely a bigger assho*e than you think

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Reach out to your recruiter, worst case he/she will say no. Nothing to loose.
