Does the market believe in Sundar Pichai?
But of a background, I'm from a top tier college in India and want to work in USA due to the quality, quantity and diversity of tech jobs. the way I see it, I only have 2 options: 1). Do a MS in USA, then get a H1B there 2). Get a job in one of the top companies (Google, Uber etc.) which transfer employees to usa on L1 visas. Getting these companies right out of college is a very realistic target for me. I've been told that L1 holders are generally paid less as compared to their H1 counterparts since they can't change jobs. What do you guys think? p.s. I understating staying in India is a legitimate option, but I feel like my talents would be wasted here. #tech #visa #h1b #l1b #usa #india #MS #tc
I just moved back to India just after spending 3 years, as I didn't get H1b after 3 attempts after masters. Best decision I made to be back. Growth is here in India. Think about it
Can you please elaborate?
Yup and ofc finding a Gf is much easier if you are in India. In the US you are pretty much playing the dating game on hard mode due to the awful male to female ratio
Firstly get your ego in check - having a top tier college and gpa is less important in the US. Your skills and abilities are. Your 'talents' can be used in India too. To answer your question more directly, option 2 would work better for you - L1s may be slightly underpaid but it's not because they can't change jobs. Don't invest the 2 years in the MS if you're doing it just for the job in the US.
Man I have skills and abilities, ik it sounds cocky but I literally love CS and gotten really good at it because I learn in college out of curiosity and not just chasing CGPA. That being said, I'm also vain. I worry if my friends work in USA no matter how well I do in India, we just won't be on the same level :/
Maybe stop comparing yourself with your friends? They are not your competition. And if they judge you for staying back in India then That's their shitty attitude and they ain't really meant to be your friends. Basically I advise you to get out of the rat race mentality. Learn to expand your friend circle outside of your tech bros bubble and go meet people from different backgrounds once you land in Bangalore post graduation. You will add flavor to your life when you interact with folks from non tech field. If you come to US then no matter how hard you try literally every other Indian person (boy or girl) you run into will be a Software engineer.
@QUJN45 you again lol with your gf story in US 😁
Yes, you literally found someone in your fucking 30s. Why waste your time so late when you can enjoy the feeling of having a GF in your 20s which is much easier in India. You are the fool worshipping the white man's land
I also had gfs in 20s bro, in India and abcd chick's in US. Latter were more fun . Your justa pessimist in this regard
Both of them are not optimal. Best is go to Amsterdam or Canada, get PR or citizenship and then move to US (if you want to).
How would Netherlands PR help? Canada Citizenship would definitely help.
Netherlands PR is better than slaving on H1B or L1 in US. It's closer to India and has a great work life balance story.
lol I will tell you when your talent will get actually wasted- when you are stuck in the green card queue for 20+ years and feels like a slave at work.
But what about the quality of jobs? I don't want to end up work on second grade products :/
Well if you just want to be stuck in a mediocre job( most faang jobs are) then yes US is the place to be, that is where most of the product dev happens. But if you want to build something of true value, then no. I went to an IIT, did MS and regret being stuck here doing this mediocre shit.
Clean air water, Indian food and movies, COVID vaccine, guns and shootouts, luxurious life, quality education for kids is all you have in USA. Other developed countries might offer the same but taxes eat away a lot of your earnings. What’s in India ?? Mere paas maa hain..... sorry couldn’t resist .. had to include the last line.
In India you can do whatever you want. You are a fucking Chad in your home country not yet another run of the mill ugly indian dude who has to rely on arrange marriage to get laid.
Stop revering chad. Having s** is no big deal. You can easily pay to do it anywhere you want.
Then he can get US GC as a gay guy.
If you are in top tier company or moving between top tier companies why worry about gc ? Your h1b get extended and visa never gets rejected.
Unlimited extending of visa after H1b lottery?
Yup if you can get I140.
You need to excel at your job and build relationships for L1 transfer. Or become a manager and then a new category of visa opens. Build a startup, get US vc funding. Invest in USA, get a green card.
didn't realize L1 was this difficult. What is the startup route?
L1 is super difficult. Best route would be H1B. 3 chances are enough for most people to get an H1b. Also a lot might change (for better or worse) in 4 years (when u will actually try for H1B). Having an Ivy League (India or here) doesn’t matter.
Bhai you know the rule TC or GTFO
lmaoo I'm still in second year. Making 40k a month doing an internship if it matters
Where are you interning?
