On behalf of a friend (new grad, India). He has to choose between the following two offers. Adobe (MTS) - TC ~20LPA base: 12.5LPA RSU: 2.5LPA (total 10L for 4 years) Joining bonus (one time): 2L (joining) + 3L (end of year 1) Amazon (SDE) - TC ~20LPA base: 14.5LPA RSU: Total 11L for 4 years. Vesting percentages: 5, 15, 40, 40 (Since fractions of stocks won't be given so no amount in first 2 years as per current stock price, so not added in TC) 1st year sign on (one time): 3.6L 2nd year sign on (one time): 2.2L Pro Adobe: I want to go for higher studies in a few years. I saw a trend that people in Adobe publish papers and build a better research profile. Pro Amazon: Since the above is team dependent, it's also possible that I end up in a desktop based team in Adobe where work is in C++. In that case, choosing Amazon will be better as the work here is largely cloud based. Please share your opinion. Do consider career growth, future prospects, work-life balance etc. Added a poll but looking for subjective answers. Thanks! #adobe #amazon #swe #india #indiasalary #newgrad #research
As someone who worked at Adobe, I’d vote Adobe. Culture is wonderful and bennies/perks are very good.
Adobe
Even if you get the team in amazon theres a very high chance the culture is toxic and all you do is op/chore and doesnt learn much
Do let us know what you end up choosing!
Also keep in mind that Amazon includes employee and employer pf in base pay
If your friend already knows that he'll be going for masters, then Adobe is great. He'll be happy here for sure, if not anything else. For a new grad, even if he gets c++ role, he'd learn object oriented design at least, so nothing to lose. But if masters is not sure, I would prefer Amazon for my initial days
I have worked with Adobe in the past and currently am at Amazon. In terms of culture and perks, I'd vote Adobe every time. However, I find the way the work is done in Amazon to be much more interesting because its guided by strong leadership principles. Adobe was a good place to rest and vest
Adobe is very cloud based and has better WLB / culture (from what I hear abt Amazon) there’s also a significant education fund and many have put it toward grad school credits.
How much does adobe fund towards grad school? And what are the conditions after completing it?
Don’t forget you get two shutdowns a year in the US at Adobe - Fourth of July week and Christmas (the start of Christmas shutdown depends on what day Christmas falls) through New Year’s. There is no vacation policy at Adobe, but my manager (when I worked there) encouraged us to take a minimum three (but preferred four) weeks for our team. You also get a sabbatical every five years - the first sabbatical is four weeks, then every five years, a week is added with a cap at x-number of years. Offices are nice and you get volunteer hours. Software discount is wonderful and you get other discounts.
What did your friend choose?
There is no guarantee that you cant get in a cpp role (or similar language)in amazon as a new grad
True, but going by odds, Adobe has more desktop products around. So more chances of getting one there.
Who said Adobe has more desktop products? ... it is all mostly cloud based these days
