I am leaving IBM and moving to a trading company - I haven't told them yet. My benefits start at the new company on the first day of the next month after starting. My wife is pregnant and has her first doctor appointment is on Nov 30. Should I give two weeks notice and just deal with the gap on insurance after the first appointment? Is cobra a thing? Or should I only give a weeks notice and try and push back the appointment to December when the benefits kick in? Also if it matters - the insurance at the new company is a lot better and they pay 100% of premiums. #insurance #medical #health #quitting #pregnancy
Can you leave on the 2nd of the month? You will be covered for the remainder of the month by your first company insurances and next month your new company kicks in
You can just sign up for a month or two of Obamacare. They've got gold silver and bronze. Oh and platinum which is really expensive. Gold is really expensive also per month. But you're really good at being on it for a month or two, so it won't really matter.
Cobra is definitely a good option. But I am curious on the part where the employer doesn’t cover insurance from day 1.
I don't understand it either. They really want to hire me - is this something that I could negotiate?
