Two days ago had a call with an affirm recruiter, they mentioned a max base of 140k + remainder being stocks. This seems insanely low, also no mention of negotiations available in terms of base, stock, or sign-on. What's up with this? I understand the whole 90 day avg thing but 140 is pretty balls. TC 183k (current base is 135 + 35k bonus) YOE 3 #interview #affirm #remote #fintech
90 day Avg? What ur yoe? Role?
Updated. And they take the price of 90 days so that's like $80 and now it's 160 meaning you'd double right away
That is shit for base. I am in early conversations now with recruiter.
Right? Lol What have they said to you in terms of numbers
Are you a SWE? I've heard of 170 base (300+ TC) for SWE 2, which you should be targeting with 3 YOE
That's what I've seen as well. L5 role
This is definitely not a SWE2 role at affirm, that’s more senior level comp. where are you located OP?
Don't listen to the recruiters. They are shameless liars. I was told by one that the compensation would be like half of faang numbers since the CEO believes in underpaying and at the same time not laying off anyone because he's kind hearted.
What do I take from this? I can't negotiate or what?
hahahahaaha good one. We lay off people all the time
My wife is at affirm. Yes their offer is usually low. But note that their levels are highly inflated so it might be similar if you match the level correctly with other companies.
Is your wife in engineering department at affirm?
Where are you located? Base salary is dependent on location, for base at least (think stocks are not). I got 140 or 145 originally but was living in MD. Got 165 base for moving to California (wanted to move). 90k stocks for first two years. This was 2YOE a few months ago….not sure why everyone is saying low pay. Not even including the stupid stock grow the past month or so, the pay is on par with l4 at google… but you can be remote…
Would be remote Seattle
Definitely low ball
Not sure of L5 salary bands, but our base is location and level dependant. Don't hesitate to ask for more, especially if the interview went well. We'll sometimes pay out a lump sum at sign on to bring the first year up to the amount you asked for. After that you have stocks
How big of a lump sum? I've seen people share 50k+ but not sure if that's true
I don't know. I got everything I asked for but it was less than 50k
Recruiters will low ball you initially. I managed to negotiate mine up about 15k in base and stocks each compared to initial numbers. But it also depends on the recruiter, area, level, how well you interview etc. If you are seriously interested in the role just go through the process?
Already did just waiting on results but just wanted to know how high I can go
Thank you for sharing. Is it stock increase also $15K per year?
So is levels.fyi accurate to use asa baseline for negotiation?
No, it's outdated. Go higher
