What would be a better move from career and financial aspect? Offers are comparable after negotiation (~470k per year). For some reason, Airbnb(no real data points) feels like a less hostile/demanding work place compared to Facebook(multiple friends). Not sure about career scope beyond L5 in Airbnb, Facebook feels like Google which means there is significant room above E5. Equity wise(similar initial grant), not sure which company would be a wiser bet (gut feeling says Facebook based on Ads industry knowledge). #swe #facebook #airbnb #e5
Wrong place to ask. There are 2 things Blind users hate: Amazon and Facebook
Lol, why is that (even polls indicates that)? I am hoping for some long comments, where some people who made a similar decision could shed light on their reasoning.
No pip > pip
No layoff > mass layoff
@Amazon I was gonna post the same thing lol
Fb E5 if you want promotion to E6. There is no way you are getting it here.
Thanks for sharing this. Do people even manage to get exceeds in their ratings and are the stock refreshers at Airbnb super generous? Recruiter suggested 330k+ refresh for EE+ ratings.
That's really high refreshers
Offers are great, congrats. I feel work culture of Airbnb is better, less cut throat and pressure. At fb, the pressure is real. It can easily get to you. Are you including sign on in TC? Mind sharing breakdown of bnb?
What’s the refresher at AirBnB? Refreshers are pretty good at FB at E5. EDIT: I just read the other comment, AirBnB 330k refresher would be really high, are you sure it’s legit or a recruiter lie
This is false. 160 is Mae, 240 EE, 320 gee
Can you post the breakdown. Also are you L5 at Google
I was in your shoes not too long ago, was at Google, choosing between Fb/Airbnb L5. I went with Airbnb for a couple of reasons: 1. The company/team are smaller. I enjoy working in small teams, scope is usually bigger, and as a consequence there's more room to grow in different areas. 2. Related to (1), given the size of the company, work is less specialized (this may be dependant on the stack you work on though). At Google I was working on a very specific problem/domain, from the interviews I had with some teams at FB, I got the sense it was going to be similar there. 3. Given the pandemic, there's room for Airbnb's stock to jump once things are back to normal. Since I joined, my equity has increased by ~15%. 4. Working on Airbnb seemed more appealing compared to IG (the product I was going to work on at Fb), even more so from an ethical point of view, I'm not the biggest fan of social media. 2 main reasons I wanted to join Fb were: 1. Continue to work with smart people. My team at Google was amazing, real rockstars. I enjoyed my Fb interviews and appreciated the quality of engineers I interacted with. 2. Getting another big name on my resume. Airbnb's been great with regards to (1). For (2), I figured it doesn't matter much since I already had Google on my resume. I think both companies are great options, you probably can't go wrong with either one (assuming you don't end up in a bad team).
What about the layoffs in Airbnb? Doesn't that raise doubts about the company's finances?
Is this for the hq in the bay area or somewhere else?
Are you currently L5 at google and what’s the current TC?
What is your YOE?

Thanks!
