Sick of listening to people that Airbnb is so great for kids or the only people use Hotels are people without kids. I had so many horrible experience at Airbnb with kids that I just stopped using Airbnb completely. 1. One Airbnb I booked was unsafe for kid, had a huge 10 feet drop in the yard. We got lucky that it was only for 3 days. 2. With kids, there are lot to pack (Strollers, multiple bags ...). We booked a Unit which turned out to be on third floor without elevator. The description was this is a single floor building. 3. We have seen bad beds or smells in the house. Atleast with hotels there are consistencies. 4. Some of the houses had too much of delicate stuff put as Decor. The first thing we do is take pictures, make the house kids-safe, and on last day put things back as they were. But the worst incident was when we got a expensive home for 2 weeks which has bad flooring. My kid got tipped and lost his permanent front teeth. These things can happen with anyone even at hotels. But the way Airbnb customer care handled these things is like this is your problem. Their insurance is just a BS. They also didn't took any action against the host of false listings. One of the other thing that bothered us is the cancellation policy. With kids, we need a lot more flexible plan as they tends to get sick often and have to change the plan. Airbnb is so bad with cancellation policy that we have to take travel insurance always if we book an airbnb. At hotels, we have done partial cancellations even after checking in. Now we do one of the three things - - If we need full kitchen, we take full suites with Kitchen - Expedia has a filter for that. - For longer stays, we take corporate apartments. We search it through Airbnb and if you search the property name in Google, you will get the direct property Management website. They tends to be 20-30% cheaper if you do it like that. - Mostly we are now preferring to stay in resorts or hotels.
The bandwagon is already well on its way.
Airbnb listing are way too expensive for what they offer too..shitty.
Sonder. They’ll still take your money for bs, but it’s way more consistent than random airbnb’s
Agreed! We stayed in Airbnb with a 1 year old and the instructions to open the door didn't match. It seems there was a back door where we were supposed to enter and the picture of the backdoor was blue in the app and we couldn't find the blue gate. The owner had painted the door to a different color and never updated the app.we had to call her and she came to help us and she was really pissed. Once we got locked out and we had to call her for help. There were ants in the house. The house was not baby proof. The owner also got pissed that we used a lot of towels. She actually wrote a negative review about us on Airbnb that we used too many towels and called her many times for help.
Airbnb's are dying. Gonna be a huge increase in housing supplies when all these wannabe landlords go broke.
Agree, a close friends kid got really sick from something at a house last year. They couldn’t tell if it was mold, or cleaning products or what but had to seek medical attention.
Wot. I have never heard people say Airbnb is good for kids. I would rather stay at hotels with consistent building standards and safety practices and employees if help is needed.

Nope. These are valid concerns. Thank you OP for sharing this. As a new parent, it is helpful to know such things in advance
Also a parent. If you actually look after your kids (or hire a nanny to travel with you) these are non-issues. I mean the flooring was uneven? They had to walk up some stairs? Give me a break.
Hotel is always cheaper if you have 4 or less people willing to share a room and bed. ALSO Rooms are cleaner AC is always working on full blast Never run into random issues with plumbing Room gets serviced daily Easy to meet people and get recommendations from the front desk
